Before you do anything, you have to clean out any crust that might be in your dogs ear. To do this get some baby oil/ mineral oil in an eye dropper. Put some in your dogs ears and let is sit for a few hours. When the crust is soft, gently wipe it off, because any pressure could hurt your dog. Make sure you take the crust out of the small folds in its ear because that’s where the mites congregate and create more.

Now that that is done, most pet stores carry over the counter medication for ear mites. Just make sure they have pyrethrins in the ingredients. This is an insecticide that is made from a flower which is not poisonous to your dog. Before you do anything, read the instructions because it varies with each brand. Apply a few drops into each ear and then rub your dogs ears so it can get into the corners. Remember that ear mites jump from animal to animal, so if you have another pet, I would do it to them too. Good luck!

There may be over the counter ear mite medicine but if it isn't ear mites then you are just going to make him even more miserable. If you want to try it you can but make sure to tell the vet what you are using when you go to his appt. Also if it is ear mites the vet has a shot that works a whole lot better than flushes do. Ask about it at your appt.

Most pet shops sell over the counter anti-mite medication. They are made from natural ingredients called pyrithrines (spelling?). There are also natural insecticides with the same ingredient used for roses and such. One squirt and rub his ear to disperse the liquid. They need to be retreated in 5-7 days because their eggs may hatch Good luck and I hope your dog feels better soon.

Mineral oil won't harm your dog and it might help suffocate many of the mites. Simply wipe the oil on the affected areas until you can get something better from the vet.

Before you apply or put anything in it's ears, I would just call the vet, and see if he should be seen or if he can offer another alternative. Please do that before you do anything because you could be doing more harm than good. The Vet is the only one who can help him!!!
