My daughter is 3 and wants to learn to barrel race. I have no clue about anything having to do with this. Is 3 to early to start her on training. If so what age is a good age to begin this, and what would be the process of starting her in this event. What is a good way to find some one to teach her, etc.

It depends on how well she rides a horse. I've always loved going fast, but if you start dont let her trot or faster than that until shes at least five unless someone is leading the horse. Put her on a bomb-proof, obedient pony and see what happens. The fall will be shorter and it will be better for her. Make sure the horse isnt going to take off while they are going around the barrels. Also, don't try doing a pattern right away, she is way way too young for that. Just let her go around a line of barrels, or weave through some.

There are people who have started learning at that age. Try contacting local riding stables and see if they have anybody that does lessons that specialize in barrel racing. If that don't work try contacting a local saddle club in your area and see if there is someone who would be interested in giving your daughter private lessons and become a member of the organization. Usually membership fee is small and they do local shodeos one a month as well as some practice sessions and a great way for your daughter to meet other kids in her age group.

Most barrel horse's start training around 4-5 years of age AFTER they have a solid training under their belt and understand the basics. I don't approve of a barrel horse to do any hard competitions before 5 years of age. Most still have "baby" minds and I just don't feel that if they are running before they are mature enough to know how to place their body and be finished. Running a horse to early can teach bad habits such as rearing before and after runs, not slowing down in the alley, and not rating correctly. This could put you and other people at danger if you're running a horse that is not yet qualified to be considered "finished" in his sport.

Teach her to ride for now and let her work lightly on a barrel pattern.
She is far to young to learn more than the pattern. She will not get the things needed to really barrel race like how to rate the horses speed or how to keep them from dropping a shoulder and how to get them to turn better and things like that.
When she is older and maybe in 4-H or pony club then she can start learning about it and competing in races.

Well I would Not agree with the others. I would start to train her but don't go intense on her. I wouldn't put her in races yet but I think around 6-7 would be a good age to start. I would suggest a colt pony, and just to let her ride just cuz'. I hope this helps.

I would start her on riding horses now, contact a barrel racing association, get to know the people and get advice from some of them. As you are exposed to them you will learn about the sport and see when others start. Good Luck.

I would probably wait till she is a least 5 but if you think that its ok to start now that is your decision. Umm..I know what barrel racing is but I don't really know anyone who could train her. You could probably search the internet and find someone close by maybe. What ever you think.

Start teaching her the basics of riding but wait for training like that until she is older...like 12 or 13.
