one explanation which is, i believe, the correct one:

God made a fully-functioning fully-involved universe. He created Adam and Eve and they were mature, not babies. He created fully mature trees that had fruit, etc.

So in a moment of time He created the stars and He created the light from those stars at varying distances from earth....

god bless

How does light justify that the object being seen has been there for more than the amount of time from when it was first seen.

The sun has been giving its light to the world since before the historic era; therefore, one can not substantially conclude how long the sun has been giving its light and so it is for the rest of the universe.

Outside of this solar system there is no evidence that the rest of the universe is not just a celestial light show.

There are 3 heaven and earth ages, same heaven and earth but different ages.

II Pet.3:5-7 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: 6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: 7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
……………………………………….
THE WORLD THAT THEN WAS
Gen.1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

To that earth age the world that then was, belongs all fossils and remains. Scientific estimates or guesses; universe or heavens 20 billion years old, earth 4.6 billion years old, moon 200 to 300 million years younger than earth, dinosaur extinction 65 million years ago, Ice Age 2.5 million years ago.
………………………………………………………………
BEING OVERFLOWED WITH WATER PERISHED
Gen.1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep.

AND THE EARTH WAS
The word “was” (hayah) in Hebrew, was not distinguished by the Revisers, that is the verb “to be” from “to become”. The same Hebrew word “hayah” is translated “became” in Gen.2:7.
AND THE EARTH BECAME

WITHOUT FORM H8414 tohu (to'-hoo) From an unused root meaning to lie waste; a desolation (of surface), that is, desert; figuratively a worthless thing; adverbially in vain: - confusion, empty place, without form, nothing, (thing of) nought, vain, vanity, waste, wilderness.

VOID H922 bohu (bo'-hoo) From an unused root (meaning to be empty); a vacuity, that is, (superficially) an undistinguishable ruin: - emptiness, void.
AND THE EARTH BECAME DESOLATE AND EMPTY
Earth was not created that way but became desolate and empty due to Satan’s rebellion. A global overflowing of water, but not Noah’s deluge. Darkness was upon the (face) of the deep, in other words the whole earth.
Into this we can read; dinosaur extinction, destruction of Atlantis, breakup of Gondwana Land, and the Ice Age.
………………………………………………………………………...
BUT THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH WHICH ARE NOW
Gen.1:2 And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
Gen.1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

About 63 A.D. Peter writes, the heavens and the earth which are now. The heaven and earth age we are in now, today.
BY THE SAME WORD ARE KEPT IN STORE
RESERVED UNTO FIRE
AGAINST THE DAY OF JUDGMENT
AND PERDITION OF UNGODLY MEN
PERDITION G684 apoleia (ap-o'-li-a) From a presumed derivative of G622; ruin or loss (physical, spiritual or eternal): - damnable (-nation), destruction, die, perdition, X perish, pernicious ways, waste.
Some will perish eternally and not see the third heaven and earth age.

Genesis 1:3-5 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.

Genesis 1:14-19 Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years; and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so. Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also. God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth, and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. So the evening and the morning were the fourth day.

Creationists usually try to explain away this one by saying the speed of light has been decreasing over time without considering the implications this would have on the universe.
They truely are crackpots!!!

If you understand infinity, you will understand the omnipotence of God. If He created the universe, He was certainly capable of creating the lights of the skys with the light showing instantly. If He was able to grow a tree out of the ground in an instant, there was likely ripe fruit on it.
The measurement of time and speed is an earthly thing that exists within our understanding of things. It would seem that if God lives beyond our human dimension, then so would our understanding of time and speed in His dimension.

here are the three explanations I've been told about.
1. the speed of light is not constant, in that the further away the faster light travels.
2. time dilation, space time is distorted and either makes the light from the stars reach us quicker or they are not as far away as they seem.
3. here's the best one. it isn't real, just an image, a projected backdrop.
sounds like sheer desperation to me.

presagio1 - You can't say that the people who believe that (young earth) don't also believe that the universe is not young. According to Genesis, your god makes heaven and earth out of the "formless void." He makes all the planets and stars. So that means, if you believe in a young earth, you must also believe in a young universe. You can't have one without another, can you? You think God created everything - therefore he created the universe, too, and therefore if you believe in young earth, (which had been proven to be wrong), then the young universe theory follows. It's silly to think that your god created everything but the universe, when the book you live by says he created it all.

Hebrews 1:2 talks about the Son of God who "also made the worlds"...that would be plural as more than one world. Those could well have been created way before our world. They would have suns and moons also.

The problem is the word UNIVERSE.

The next problem is the world PLANET EARTH.

The next problem is that PLANET EARTH existed before plans came to put plant & flesh on it.

The next problem is the word WORLD or FLESH that is in the PLANET EARTH.

How old was planet earth when plant life came to be on it?
How old was planet earth when animal life came to be on it?

How old was planet earth when mnakind as the world came to be upon it?
