I am pregnant with my second child, and im having trouble finding work. nobody seems to want to hire me, so i am wondering if anyone knows anywhere i can go or call to get help with money to buy a crib, and other baby necessities. The father isnt involved and my mother who wants to help, cant because of money issues. I have tried goodwill, savers, and those kinds of stores that take the donations but i cant ever find any of the things i need there. just a bassinet, but the baby will grow out of it by 6 weeks or so.

Well first off, contact your local public aid office. They know of places that can help offer more assistance than what they already offer. Next, salvation army. They can help supply clothing.
then the crisis pregnancy center. They help with counciling, baby supplies (such as car seats, strollers, cribs, high chairs.)
then join a web site called www.freecycle.org
you join the counties next to you and place ads requesting your needs. You would be amazed at how many people have stuff they were going to throw or give away.
Freecycle is also free stuff. When i was pregnant, i lost my job and had to start all over and freecyclers helped me get a crib, high chair, 2 car seats, Bags and bags of baby toys and clothing, crib bedding, changing table and everything. I was very happy! Good luck sweetie! And congrats!

I don't know about baby things, aside from saying FreeCycle and Craigslist, other thrift stores and consignment shops besides Goodwill. Goodwill is well-known and is thus always picked over. Look in the phone book for another thrift store.

But I do have a suggestion for the crib. You're right, the baby will grow out of the bassinet eventually and then you'll be in the same position.

I will probably get thumbs down and people will think I'm crazy, but here goes.

A laundry basket. Seriously. Get a plastic laundry basket at the dollar store or Wal-Mart. The baby does not care what he/she sleeps in. Put a firm pillow in it (obviously, covered with a pillowcase). People will think you're insane, but does a newborn really NEED a huge crib? No! Get one big enough and he/she will not just grow out of it at six weeks. If your bed is against a wall, you can even put it between you and the wall on your bed. It's portable during the day. The slats are even closer than the slats on a crib are required to be by law. It is not dangerous. A friend of mine did it when she was a new mom/college student/poor single parent and her baby is fine. You just can't do this once the baby is pulling on things, etc. But for four months or so it's fine. And it gives you time to find a proper crib.

As for work try applying at places that will understand. Daycare centers or preschools. Some churches pay people to babysit children during church services and activities.

If you have a little money put an ad in the classifieds asking for someone to donate a crib. Say something like "Single mom in need of a crib. Has your toddler outgrown his? No money but willing to barter. 555-1234." Someone will probably call with one ... if they do you can offer something like a bag of clothes you've outgrown, toys your other child doesn't play with anymore for their toddler who's giving up the crib, etc. But more than likely one kind soul will offer it for free. That's how my friend eventually got her daughter a proper crib.

The same kind of ads work for baby clothes, toys, etc. Or try garage sales for those ... I see outfits for a dollar and toys for not even a fifth of what they cost new.

Good luck.

the question is hun how far along are u? Because most places won't hire u if they can see that u are pregnant. Why that is? Because they don't want the problem of u having to go on early maternity leave and/or going into labor while at work. They aren't suppose to discriminate, but they do when they know or see that you are pregnant. I've worked many places to know this and I've been where u were hun. With trying to find things for the baby go to your nearest family services or Dept. of social services they will know where u can get the things that u need. Plus, i know that some grocery food chains will hire u around this time. e-mail me and I will give u their names. Pray that you get all the info that you need hun.

Go to your local crisis pregancy center (not planned parenthood, the ones run by christians) They can help with maternity clothes, and other necesities. Also try visiting a local church. They should be able to help you as well. I have an extra crib I'd give you but youre probably not close by. Hang in there I'm sure it will all work out.

You can get work at local nurseries, like a fitness center or a church nursery. They usually don't mind hiring pregnant moms. You can also call your local St. Vincent de Paul through your local Catholic church, they should be able to guide you in the right direction with things you need. Crisis pregnancy centers are also a good place to look for assistance and a wise ear to help you with your stress.

We have what is called the pregnancy resource center. They will give you what you need. They also will reward you for going to your prenatal appointments and stuff with "dollars". Then right before the baby comes you can go and buy brand new things from them. They also give maternity clothes. Look it up in your local phone book. They may have something in your state. I live in Utah so if you are a Utard too then it is here. Good luck. (Also, if there is certain things you need I may have extras so just let me know and I will see what I can locate for you.)

ask other friends/relatives for a crib. a lot of times an aunt works with someone that has an old crib that you can borrow until baby grows into a regular bed. how old is the first child?? maybe consider moving the older one into a "big bed" so that you can have the crib for the new baby?? or if all else fails, xmas is around the corner, ask several of ur friends/relatives to pool their $$ together and get a crib. or look up your local public aid office online and see what they can help you with. they have tons of hook-ups. you can get food, health care, formula, even a little cash to help with the expenses. good luck and god bless!! please email me if you have any other questions or need someone to talk to!! chingona1027@yahoo.com. i'll pray for you!!

where do you live ,

I am a Bahai, they're are many out there, if i knew where you lived i could email or call and ask them if they had one for you?

Church groups are helpful that way, and i think you should get Public assistace if you aren't already.

Email me with the Town, or you can email them for a contact,

1800 22 unite.

Just say you want to get intouch to talk about the faith, and when they respond to your email, or call you, can tell them that a Bahai from Ct told you to ask for help from them, and you can restassured they will help if they can.

either way they are nice folks and can help you in other ways, so that maybe you could save money and buy one,

and if you live in Ct I can get one for you.Aswell as clothes ect..

Free-cycle.com is another place to go. Many people will offer things and you can probably get all you might need. Also maybe a friend can throw you a shower. They are getting more common now for more then first.

Go to www.craigslist.com. They have listing for all major cities and surrounding areas. They have a listing for baby/kids items. You can also post under the wanted section for gently used items at a decent price or possibly free.
