I have to make a big decision. I am pretty sick, and I really need advice. Doctor says I have 2 choices.
1. Remove the uterus and ovaries and go on hormone therapy.
Or
2. Leave the ovaries (no hormone therapy) and go through radiation and chemotherapy.
Any advice on which to choose? I've had cervical cancer in the past and did the radiation/chemo...but I've heard some people would practically rather die than go on hormone therapy.
I appreciate any advice out there. From women please.

Allan...my bf says it's up to me. And I don't want my kids or fam to know. And they've never dealt with it. So...I wanted to talk to women who have. :)

one of my good friends had cervical cancer when she was 19 (she's almost 32 now) and she had a hysterectomy at 26. Every woman in her family got either breast cancer, uterine cancer, ovarian cancer or cervical cancer, or all of the above. She's doing fine now.
There are herbal alternatives to Hormone replacement stuff. There is a store near us that could help you out with that. (HoneyComb)
Good luck hon.

I say get the hysterectomy. I've had cancer, the chemo and radiation and I have had a hysterectomy. I would much rather do the hysterectomy again. Secondly, I don't take any hormone replacement b/c my cancer was estrogen positive and I really haven't had any problem without having them. The main reason they want you to take hormone replacement is for bone and heart health. I just try to eat right and take a calcium pill everyday. You aren't completely estrogen free. Your body will still make some. What you will still make accounts for 20% of your estrogen production by the pituitary gland, I believe it is, it's some gland.

1. Remove the uterus and ovaries and go on hormone therapy!
you already have 4 kids....and radiation can be harmful. and if you had cervical cancer in the past, why get sick again? just get rid of your uterus and ovaries, i feel bad for you though, having to go through that! your family WILL find out one day, especially your kids

Hormone therapy can actually cause cancers in other areas, and since you are already prone to develope it, I would go with the chemo/radiation that you are already familiar with.
I wish you luck.

I would go with option 1. It gets rid of the problem in one fell swoop and all you have to go through is early menopause. With radiation and chemo, you go through SO much more.

First I have to respond to what got my attention.... Nice boobs... they look like mine... But you do realize that you are going to be called a *hore at least once?????????? You have four kids? Sorry sweetie but removing the uterus is the easiest thing to do... Do you really want to go through the side affects of radiation and chemotherapy??? You can't honestly rather put your family through that!!! Good luck, and God Bless!!!
