In ancient times prophets were not considered to be appointed spokespersons of any god, they were people who took it upon themselves to represent the people, comment on society and government, and generally just kick up a fuss, so religious texts really have no relevence, there have been many prophets before and after jesus- any social reformer is a prophet.
In answer to you'r question, I think it depends which translations and versions you read- most religious sects change texts to suit thier own needs, lots of people even in modern times declare themselves to be the second coming etc. Charles Manson is one of many, and the churches refusal to accept a new prophet is intended to prevent believers converting to other faiths.

Jesus Christ is the Savior, not prophet...
There have been many who have directed the Lord's church from biblical days, until they were all killed and no one was left on the earth holding the priesthood...then Joseph Smith restored the true gospel to the earth under the direction of Christ himself.
Jesus Christ has called prophets to lead His Church in our day, just as He did while on Earth. The first prophet called to restore Christ's Church in these Latter-days was Joseph Smith. To learn more read about the restoration of the LDS Church. When Joseph Smith was martyred Brigham Young became the next Prophet and President of the LDS Church. He led the saints to the Salt Lake Valley, which later became known as Salt Lake City, Utah

Prophets were made in this manner and they also could speak in tongues, prophesy and work miracles but could not pass the power to others. Acts 8:4-6, 14-19
The apostles and prophets and they alone, were the chosen ambassadors of Christ through which we are reconciled to God. 2 Cor. 5:20 They were chosen to reveal God's will to mankind. Eph. 3:5
When the apostles and prophets approached their deaths they did not give successors to take their places. Instead, they left their inspired writings "The Bible".
Peter said, "Moreover I will endeavor that even after my death you may often have occasion to call these things to mind. 2 Pet. 1:15
The words of Jesus were spoken to the apostles only. There is no mention of successors in the verses. The apostle Paul said concerning the gospel, "It has been preached to every creature under heaven..." Col. 1:23
The task of unerringly revealing the gospel was completed by the apostles and their many helpers. Those on whom they laid their hands, the New Testament prophets.
After Jesus Christ went to heaven and after the death of the apostles, "never" again would they have a prophet keeping them in direct contact with God. When Jesus said, "It Is Finished" mention in John 19:30. It means, Jesus left nothing undone.

there is no know Scripture but the word prophet means a person that speaks in divine inspiration of were god Will is expressed so that could mean that a lot of people can be prophets the question for you and others is can you discern from true and false prophets its easy for me because if god word doesnt line up with theirs then they are false prophets and you should do ever thing possible to avoid this type of people because god word says that they will come to you in sheep clothing ,and there going to do every thing possible to distract you from the truth.

In Ephesians there is the 5 fold ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ and they are Apostles, Evangelists, Prophets, Pastors & Teachers.
As we get closer to the return of Jesus Christ the Holy Spirit is poured out more liberally. And one of the gifts are prophecy.
They are for the edification of the Saints and for maturing & growth in Christian Churches.
The Prophets prophecy of Jesus Christ & Gods Purpose. What is the Lord going to do. So, also there are Prophets called by the Lord to prophecy to a nation, or nations. There are Words spoken for America today. The Lord is doing something special for us this Christmas. A new year prediction is one breakthrough each month. One that is spoken for other nations also is that where the water rises (flooding), the Holy Spirit is going to move in that area. I think about the Philipines just recently. There are prophetic words for the middle east.
Of course, I read http://www.elijahlist.com that has a prophetic word in it regularily.

The bringing of the Word of God through the prophets ended with Christ. His followers are still called prophets as they speak the revealed Word. They do not add to it anymore however as it is complete.

Jesus was the fulfillment of being the final Prophet, Priest, and King.
Matthew 11
12From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been forcefully advancing, and forceful men lay hold of it. 13For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John. 14And if you are willing to accept it, he is the Elijah who was to come. 15He who has ears, let him hear.
Luke 16:16
The Law and the Prophets were proclaimed until John. Since that time, the good news of the kingdom of God is being preached, and everyone is forcing his way into it.
John 6:14
After the people saw the miraculous sign that Jesus did, they began to say, "Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world."

A prophet is someone that speaks the word of God. Therefore, anyone who quotes the Bible is a prophet. <><

there aren't any - even the bible (old testament) stated that there would be another prophet after Jesus pbuh.
"I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and I will put my words in his mouth and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him" Deutronomy 18:18
The Prophet Muhammed pbuh was from among this brethren and the words of Allah swt were put in his mouth - the Quran, the word of Allah swt, was revealed to him directly and recorded exactly - He was that Prophet pbuh and HE was the final messenger of God.
