It's not so much about age, it's about maturity.

Here's a few guidelines that I would recommend:
- Before dating, make sure that you know what you are looking for. Are you looking for a potential husband? Or just someone to buy you flowers and take you out once a month? Make sure you know this and make sure you make this clear to the guy.
- Before dating, be sure that you can think for yourself. Don't date just because your friends are, or just because you think you should. These both are bad ideas.
- Before dating, make sure your priorities are in place. Consider what this is going to do to your grades, to your friendships, to your family, and to other commitments you may have. Are you going to be busy with sports all year, and not have any time for a boyfriend anyways?
- Before dating, set guidelines. I'll assume that you've had "the talk"... Basically, know what you are comfortable with and what you are not. Set your guidelines NOW before emotions are involved so that when the time comes, you will be able to say NO.
- Before dating, make sure that you know how to communicate with guys. Don't date someone if you can't talk to them without getting all giggly and silly. Learn to communicate well; it will help you!

Basically, you'll have to answer these for yourself. There is no magic age -- although that would make it a lot easier for parents! Have fun, and good luck!

I personally wouldn't allow my daughter to date until her senior prom, and even then, I'll be like a gorilla in the mist, watching her every move. Just say no to teen pregnancy and STDs. Boyfriend/guy typically means some sort of sexual activity and that causes for a certain level of maturity and responsibility.

When you've matured enough to let rational thinking be the deciding factor in your relationship instead of your emotions.

P.S. Most people in today's world never get there so if you do, consider yourself wise and rare...

wait until you are at least 13, and until you find one that you like. Dont let anyone rush you into anything.

love has nothing to do with being an adult or child, but its probably best to wait until sophomore, junior year.
