They removed the feminine deity. They supressed women for over a millinium. At one time, women were not allowed in church during their menstration because that is our "curse" for the Eve fairytale.

A lot of things. By the way, take a look at Proverbs 31. The verses about the woman show something very radical. She worked, took care of her home, and was part of the family. What was so radical was that she was a business person in those days.

But what Christianity changed for women was the commands about what was expected in a marriage. Yes, the woman should be submissive, but the husband has to go further. He is commanded to LOVE the wife, which means to put her needs above his own.

ALso, you have to realize that in that culture, men would often have more than one wife. The new testament showed that for a man to be in leadership in the church, he could only have one wife.

Another area where things changed for women, was that the Bible commanded the elders to take care of the widows among them. Before that, what help was there for these women? Not a lot, I'd guess. So, the church brought about the first idea of social work.
