Any vet here that can tell me if my cat can get sick if i put out in the snow? She is a blind 9y-o and usually indoors, but we like her to take a walk sometimes and do some exersice , so last time we took her out in the snow and after few minutes she started shaking. I figured it was too cold for her but then in my mind i thought maybe her bones arent to strong anymore , im afraid of arthritis (if they can get it im not sure) or anything like that that maybe i dont know about. In one hand i have her moving but in the other she can get sick. What do you think?

A cat that has only been inside can not handle the cold temps as well. Your cat very well may have arthritis, as alot of older pets do get it. I would figure out a way to get her moving inside until spring comes & warmer weather hits.

Most cats don't like the snow; but if they're healthy, it shouldn't bother them; cats originally were bred in what is now the Iranian Highlands and it's colder there than here. They usualy have more trouble with too much heat.

However, as much as she wants to get out, your old pussy cat probably isn't used to snow and may not be in shape to deal with it any more.

Your vet should tell you not to let her out for more than few minutes if at all until spring. If he doesn't, keep the cat, and get a new vet.

she probably has arthritis and her bones are sore from the cold weather. I would not take her outside due to her age and possible other concerns. She can get enough exercise indoors. She more than likely wont get sick just from the cold weather alone but I wouldn't chance it especially if she's uncomfortable.

If she's old and sick you could be putting her health at risk by taking her outside. Get her indoor toys to give her some exercise. Call her vet. Ask them for real advise. Not the Yahoo's on here.

I think you shoudn't put her in the snow cause the vet said not to put her in the snow. If she is blind you should always be behind her or supervising her from dogs or anything.

when dogs and cats get older, like yours, they do tend to become fragile and weak. animals are pretty much just like human beings and they can get almost anything humans can get (colds, arthritis, diabetes...) so there is a possibility that your cat does have arthritis, although it's probably more likely that she is just very cold.

if she's blind and slower, then i would keep supervising her outside.
but from what you said your cat did, i would be careful and wouldn't let her outside until spring comes. just to be on the safe side.
