The key is to find out what she likes, and try to get her something related to that. The easiest way to do this is, if you hang out with her enough, pay attention to the things that she looks at and says "ooh I like that" or "I really need to get a _____." Then you know you're on the right track!
Alternatively, think about what she likes, and get her something related to that. For example, if she loves playing Tennis, then try to get her something related to that (lessons, pass at a tennis court, shoes, DVD of the best historical matches, etc). If she likes a particular painter, get her something related to that. If she likes a musician, try and get her tickets to see them.
If you know she likes a particular brand, you can try to buy something from that area, but it's pretty hit or miss. Ideally get something that's not size dependent (like a purse or other accessory).
Finally, if you really want to show how much she means to you, you can try and do something that takes you some personal effort (it's not always about the $$$). For example, you can put together a good framed picture with lots of photos of her, her friends, stuff she likes, etc. If you are into the arts yourself, you can give her something from that too (like if you like photography, you can give her your best photo, nicely framed).
Hope this helps!

If her friend has told you that this girl likes you, it's probably true if the girl is really shy around you or really loud-it just depends on the girl. does she smile at you a lot? or laughs at a lot of your jokes? that is how it is with me....
Don't get her anything really huge, but something to say that you care and notice her. Maybe a small box of chocolates, or a nice card, or earrings (but check if her ears are pierced first! lol)
hope this helps some!! good luck, and don't be afraid to talk to her, and don't chicken out of what you want to say-just do it!

merely 6 months huh? properly rings is usually a winner. Yep... i could flow with a effective gemstone necklace or possibly a braclet with sometime engraved on the lower back or possibly a handwritten poem.

Since she is not officially your girlfriend yet, I wouldn't go all out. You want a gift to say, "I like you and I want to get to know you better, " not one that says "I'm daddy warbucks and if you date me, I'll shower you with everything." Trust me, you do not want to set that standard at the beginning of a potential relationship (we girls can get accustomed to things like that real quick). Instead, get her something like a gift card inside a cute greeting card. It says, "Hi, my name is ____, I like you, want to get to know you better, and here's a little something to show you I like you."

a bracelet or necklace would be nice a nice start, or even some flowers and movie tickets for two.
