- Regular toothbrush should usually be replaced in every 3 months
- Some electronic toothbrush (such as Sonicare) brush head should be replaced in every 6 months

How often should you replace your toothbrush?

For the best results from brushing, you should replace your toothbrush:

- At least every three months
- When bristles begins to show wear
- After an illness such as a cold or flu

Reasons why you should replace your toothbrush frequently:

- Toothbrushes just simply wear out
- Toothbrushes are often worn enough to be replaced before they look worn
- Bristles breakdown and lose their effectiveness
- Worn and fractured bristles are a breeding ground for germs, fungus and bacteria
- Worn toothbrushes can damage gum tissue

Children's Toothbrush require special attention and monitoring because:

- Bristle wear occurs quickly because children often brush with uneven strokes
- Children sometimes chew or bite on their toothbrush bristles

Hope that helps ^_^

I don't think there is any set time. Many things we do not normally think of comes in to play with toothbrushes. If you have been sick for instance do not use your old toothbrush even if it's only a week old, germs are still on it so you do not want to put a germy tooth brush in your mouth after you are feeling better. I would replace it or make sure it is sterilized before I used it again. Anyway that's what I do. Also I had a dentist once that said do not use over the counter mouthwash. It is bad for your teeth. The best thing to use is Hydrogen Peroxide. It's a little hard to get use to the foaming but it kills germs in your mouth and makes it feel cleaner without that icky sweet taste. I have also noticed the foaming in your mouth loosens little particles between your teeth that your tooth brush cannot reach and washes it away. I will never use mouthwash again.

Dentists say approximately 3 months, although a lot of people do use them for longer.
Nowadays, toothbrushes have a color change indicator on them,to remind you to replace them.

You are supposed to keep your toothbrush for 3 mos. with the exception of sickness. If you get sick with a throat infection, once you get well, replace your toothbrush in order to avoid re-infection.
