No you aren't weird but for me what is even weirder is reading it and thinking "wow people believe this is the divinely inspired word of God and to be taken literally!" Have you read it? The OT is vile, I'm sorry but it has rules for beating slaves that say if they live one day and then die there is no penalty. I know people say that the NT is a new covenent but really if the Bible was God's word wouldn't God have given some better rules to the OT people as well. In the OT God orders babies killed as well as adults. In the NT in the book of Matthew it says that slaves that don't obey should be beaten with many stripes. Just a few things that come to mind not to mention talking animals, ressurections, virgin births and the like.

You know, there are two reasons why you should belive the bible is the word of God.
1.) Through out history many people have tried to destroy the bible. The catholic Church has tried to dominate the world by telling people lies about God, and there are hundreds of religions that call themself christian but do not follow the word of the bible which is based on Love.
2.) The word of God, the bible, has survived all this hatred. The word of God has not changed. The bible you have at home compared to the ORIGINAL scriptures is exactly the same. The translation has not been lost. That is amazing. The bible finds it self all over the world, with it's original message passed on for thousands of years.

Not at all. I feel the same way. I was reading it today, in fact. One thing's for sure - being a participant here really kind of forces you to read it, to better understand the way the god pounders think. I'm still looking, trying to find something in it somewhere that will prove to me that they're all correct. All it does for me is generate more questions. How anyone can read that book and take it all as read is beyond me. I guess when they reach the part where God "says" to leave reason behind and merely trust, they do exactly that - shut their minds down and trust it's true.

Proof is irrelevant to your question. You have neglected a very important part of the book. The contents. Read those and understand them first. You may need to do a little study as the english versions are translations and what is meant by the translators sometimes needs a little commentary.
Do that and spend sometime actually understanding the contents and you may have a different opinion.

I don't know, like a handful of people.
You display as usual the No.1 atheist/agnostic assumption about religion/the Bible - that there has to be physical proof it comes from God.

The Bible is the scariest horror novel I have ever read! It's surely not meant for small children. I'd keep it on a high shelf if I were you. This God guy who supposedly wrote it is definitely a bit mental!

If you truly feel that way then you should try looking at it page by page. Reading and comprehension do wonders....if you find it still is fiction to you then all I can say is it is still a relevant lesson for life and you could do worse than to follow the example Christ gave for dealing with others.

It is a book.
but because a billion people attribute some degree of additional qualities to it (although even they may differ as to the extent of those qualities), it is automatically not "nothing more." Just as your favorite movie is more than a DVD and your favorite food is more than the sum of its ingredients.
