Like the others, I wonder what you are considering fun and freedom. As a mom of a teen, I am still responsible for her and want her to be safe. That means that I want to know where she is and who she will be with.

My daughter is a great daughter for the most part, but when she's with her friends, she tends to forget the rules and does stupid things, which means that we then have to restrict her freedom.

If you have access to a computer, how much restrictions do you have or lack of fun.

But I have a suggestion for you: start helping out at home by volulnteering to do things. Prove to them that you are responsible, follow through with what you promised, when they give you something to do, make sure you complete it. Make sure you get your homework done, keep your room picked up, etc. When they see you are very responsible and are a person who can keep your word, I have this feeling that you will find you get a lot more fun and freedom as a reward.

Oh, for pete's sake!

What do kids do EXCEPT have fun?

If your parents were truly NOT giving you a little freedom when it comes to fun, you wouldn't have access to this site. You wouldn't have the cell phone that I'm sure you're texting on right now. You wouldn't be able to watch tv, or go to movies, or the mall, or even talk to your friends between classes. You wouldn't have any of the cute outfits you have, and wouldn't be looking forward to getting any Christmas presents.

Why don't you try giving your parents a little break from all the hard work they do for the sake of letting you have a little fun?

Because what is fun to a child is just downright DANGEROUS when looked at from a parents perspective, for instance, my daughter goes to playgroups every week. Her idea of fun is to run away from mummy, find the front door and try to escape...fun for her, but for me it's panic-inducing. Although the doors are hard to open, it won't be long before she can figure out what angle to pull the doors at, and how to undo the locks- so I don't allow her the freedom to do this.

What kind of situation prompted YOU to ask this question?

What you call lack of freedom is you doing what ever you like, when you like how you like. Any adult allowing that is not parenting!

What freedoms are you talking about? Coming home when YOU chose? Staying out as late as YOU want to? Going where you want to go when you want to go?

Or do you mean that there should not be any discipline that interferes with what YOU want to do or not do?

The issues with you are that your parents give you too much and you do not have to do anything to support the family and you have no home support responsibilities.

I bet you get mad and slam/close your room door and ignore your parents when they talk to you!

It all depends on what freedom u are talking about. You have to remember that parents have gone through what u are going through. They know the dangers and down falls of certain freedoms. So my question to u is.Why don't u trust your parents to make the right decisions on your freedoms for fun?

What do you mean by fun? Going to the movies with friends or playing outside in a fenced in yard? Or doing drugs and partying all night? If your not a parent then you wont understand why parents put the restrictions they do on their children.

Parents don`t give children a little freedom because they just dont want you to get in trouble.

Because, they only want what is best for you, and whats best for you sucks hard. I got a $250 bike, and i can't bike 2 miles away, because i might get run over by a car. My dad still thinks i'm in second grade, and keeps making retarded potty jokes and jokes about girls. So, after several fist fights (which doesnt make sense, considering how sensetive he is about what happens to me) and arguments, it came out that he doesn't want other people to look at him and say he failed me.

Tell your parents that you won't learn anything if you dont try stuff by yourself. It didn't work for me, but you should still try it.

What kind of fun are you referring to? If it is fun that is illegal or dangerous, that is why they don't give freedom. If it is wholesome fun, maybe they are overprotective? It just depends on what specifically you are referring to.
