For the kids you can get a bunch of christmas pencils and tie them together with red pipe cleaners.
For the teacher: you may have a local teacher store that will have neat things that say things like #1 Teacher. Your son can pick something out.

Do you remember those activity pads that we used to get as children? I think that is a perfect gift for children. Some come with crayons and those that don't are usually 2/$1 at most stores like Walgreen's. As far as the teacher. When I don't know them well enough to give them a craft or buy them something I know that they will like I just ask the teacher and the assistant to give me a wish list with 3 things on it and I choose what I can afford.

With regards to the students, you can go to the dollar store if u're looking for something inexpensive. You can't go wrong with coloring books! They're learning to color in the lines! (LOL)
Also, since the word you used to describe the teacher was "great," I would do a Christmas ornament; you know, one of those that has the year on it, a keepsake ornament. Or, if you have a crafts store, you can buy twenty little ornaments, and you and your son can work on them as a little project and give one to all of the students.
I'm an ex school teacher, and the most memorable gifts are the ones that are still around (paper cards students made me, notes they wrote, etc.) The fact that we're thought of at all means something.
Thank you for thinking of your son's teacher!
Merry Christmas!

For the kids I would suggest holiday pencils, erasers, or stickers. Many of the teachers I work with love gift cards to Barnes & Nobles, Borders, or just about any restaurant. That is what I have found is liked in the school that I work in. I have been a teacher assistant for 3rd grade and 1st grade for 4 yrs.

you can the children each a little can of playdough. i know that play dough was celebrating an anniversary and i believe it was toys r us website that had the little cans for a very affordable price.
also what about: coloring books, glow sticks, those capsules you drop in the water and they turn into foam shapes, cool pencil and eraser, yo yos, twisty straws....
for the teacher what about a gift set from bath and body works, a christmas ornament, a gift certificate to wal mart or a local restaurant, or a nice plant or flower of some sort?
Hope this helps! SD

For the teacher
go to a paint your own pottery and have you child make a flower pot or coffee mug.
does she drink coffee every morning? a gift card to the local coffee shop (with drive through if available) I gave that, had my child make a santa out of paper plates (legs/arms/hat added with construction paper) and added the phrase:
"sugar and spice and everything nice, that's what my teacher's made of" (added sugar packet in one hand...my favorite spice in the other hand....gift card in the card)
For the children...they love stickers still at that age. Dollar store is the best and get all the same theme for the girls and another for the boys. Add a juice box with a santa face!

You can go to walmart and get each child a book. They sell kindergarten books for as little as a dollar. As for his teacher, you should try to find out what she likes, but teachers pretty much enjoy any gift they get from a student. My sister is a teacher, and she got a tea light candle last year(maybe costed 50 cents), and she loved it, just because the child thought of her!!

Get all the kids a t-shirt which u can buy in bulk all in one color. If they are different colors the children will fight and cry because they want another one, so get it in one color. And for the teacher, get a lotion set that come in a small attractive package, and let ur son choose something too.

For his class...
Small goody bags filled with dollar store items or if you mean for the class itself maybe a couple of good new books.
For the teacher may a give her $20 to schoolastics or Staples for supplies.

perhaps a goldfish in a simple goldfish bowl or antoher kind of low maintenance pet. A budgie or canarie would be lovely but you may want to check with the teachers before you buy it to make sure they are happy to and have the time to see to the daily upkeep of the bird's cage and care.
The bird song in the playroom would be a lovely thing to give.
