oh I feel bad now after reading these answers. I got on to her for peeing and yes it did make it worse. I just gave her away to a really good home with 3 children (my niece and nephews). I shouldn't feel bad now cause you should have seen the dog with the kids it was so sweet, you could tell they were made for each other!!!!

It sounds like submissive urination. Dogs will do this when they feel extremely below the people in family. Some will say the dog needs more "confidence".

Try these things -
Don't talk to her when you come home, don't look at her just come in and do a few things first. Let the dog outside to potty and than when you greet her bend down to her level, turn your head away from her and offer your hand. Be careful with your praise - give it, but don't be overly exuberant. Just a simple "good dog" and a pat on the head.

Give her things to do. Simple things like sitting at random times etc.. When you talk to her, keep your voice soft and quite - can be harder if you're male with a deep voice but it can help.

Taking a dog that is submissive to obedience classed can be really helpful too. Builds up that "confidence".

Don't scold her for the accidents it will only make her feel even more submissive- they really want to please you and if you're angry they will pee more.

This is extreme submissive behavior. The last thing you want to do is to yell at her or punish her for peeing. Dogs pee when they feel extremely threatened by a higher member of the pack.

Good steps to take:

Punishing the dog will make it pee more, as it is already telling you how submissive and harmless it is, punishment is the WORST thing you can do to a dog that urinates submissively, not only will it not solve the problem (it will make it worse), but it also stresses the dog out more, possibly causing lasting emotional effects.
Never look the dog in the eye, this is threatening behavior to dogs
Never bend over the dog, always squat down to its level.
Speak in a normal voice, not high and squeaky, and not low and threatening, just normal.
Ignore it when you and the dog are in a situation where you know its going to pee.
Ignore it as soon as it pees, just walk away.

Most dogs grow out of this behavior when they mature, around two years.

It is called "submissive urination" Strange as it seems, the dog is showing you that you are the boss! Whatever you do, don't yell at the dog when it does this --it only makes it worse.

I have read that taking a dog to obedience class can help by giving the dog confidence. But only if the methods used are gentle.

For the short term, don't greet the dog when you first come home. Keep everything low key. And don't let other people pet the dog in the house.

For other suggestions, ask your vet

Your dog has anxiety issues. I had a dog like this. She needs to build confidence - and you can help her do this by taking her through obedience training.

Without obedience training to build her confidence and teach her proper behavior, you are only reinforcing her problem. I assume you yell at her and make a big fuss when she pees on your shoes, which just tells her that she was right to be upset, because look, now you are upset too!! She needs training from you and she needs it now. She can get over this, but it takes effort on your part to understand behavioral training in dogs.
