this is so strange
basically this evening i heard meow meow thinking it was one of my two cats stuck in some where my children and i went searching around the house to find where the sound was comming from
both our cats were as all cats do a sleep on the bed
we located to meow to our front door to find this hansome black and white cat sitting at our door shivering from the cold
this cat has never been seen in the neighbour hood before
but after watching the news that north london had that tornado i really couldn't send him on his way
before any desision was made he had run into the house
now here's my question
i've tried phoning ceclia hammond trust south east london who take in lost and found cats but no answer
i've phoned r.s.p.c.a and was held in a que for almost an hour
i've even phoned cat protection
i have now run out of who to call
no one knows the cat around here
who else could i contact about this poor chap
we can't keep him

Please be careful who you let him go with if you get replies to ads... There are so many crazy and irresponsible people out there. Especially now that Christmas is on its way, the Cat Protection League recommend not to let adoptions take place now because so many cats will be dumped as soon as the novelty wears out. This little chap obviously trusts you to take care of his future. You may have to have him as a guest over the festive season... I do hope all gets resolved happily. Good luck!

This happened to me before actually. A lovely ginger cat just turned up at our doorstep and refused to leave. We ended up letting him come and go in our garage and gave him some food, whilst trying to keep him away from our cat (rather tricky!). We put something in the local paper, and in the end the owner actually walked past our house and recognised the cat. They'd just moved into the area and he got lost.

Try posting adds, our radio station has a lost/found pet segment. We also have a lost/found online add thingy here. Just keep checking. In Canada only 3% of cats that end up as strays in shelters are re-claimed by their owners, and 20% of the ones not reclaimed are adopted. So thats about 78% of the cats that end up in shelters get put too sleep. It's sad and I hope you find the poor guy's home!!

Go to the nearest vet - they will scan for a microchip.
They will also take the cat in on behalf of the RSPCA or other animal charity.
He could well be a refugee from the tornado so it may be worth contacting a local news paper or radio station.
just hope he is microchipped.

There seems to be some confusion here. Dogs have masters but cats have staff.
Having two cats already, you are obviously suitably experienced and it is therefore not by sheer chance that you have been selected for this important task.
Try wriggling out of it without the cat knowing by pinning a notice to a nearby tree. They may be clever but can only read body language, and not the written word!
Do tell us who wins!

Ha Ha, that is so true. Meow, that's how my handsome black and white kitty invited himself in. Nope we weren't keeping him. We ran an ad too, not one single call. He just happened to be way sweeter than the ones we already had. Now, he's been nipped and tucked and declawed and sleeps on my husbands laptop. He even kisses my chow right on the mouth. We think someone has marked our property as suckers.

you say its a hansom cat so somewhere there is someone missing it?!
you can phone your local police station and most hold a lost and found for pets
you could take it to a charity vet or a privet one but check they arnt going to charge you and take it to see if it has a micro chip in its neck that would identify him/her
there are also lots of lost and found pet sites if you do a search
hope this helps

Either place an advert in your local paper or do what I did, type out some posters and pin them to trees around where you found the cat, and place a few in shop windows. It may seem a stupid idea but trust me it works.

Keep trying the RSPCA, contact your local vet tomorrow morning, put a few flyers up, ask your neighbours. If the cat is as handsome as you say, he might have a family who takes good care of him and misses him. Take good care of him until he can be reunited with his family.
