I find that when eating something noodle-like, chopsticks are the way to go. On the other hand, forks and knives with something like a steak, (or anything you need to cut and pick up). But hey, that's my opinion.

This is a personal choice. If you were brought up in an Asian household chopsticks would be used from an early age. To someone who is used to them it would be easy but for the rest of us it's not so easy!! I find them difficult to handle so I stick to a knife and fork but my husband finds them very easy to use even though he's not Asian.

I'm very good with chopsticks and can eat rice, cut up chicken and eat that with them, eat rice noodles with not problem. Chopsticks are easier to wash, IMO, but you're most likely not going to be able to cut a steak with them. It really depends on what you're eating.

A couple other people have mentioned they like using their hands. Well, I have very long, lovely black fingernails and I am downright anal about nail care/cleanliness. I do tend to use my nails to pick up food while eating small items like green beans, fruit chunks, etc. I just jump up every five minutes and wash my nails. I don't know why I do this, I just do.

After spending much time in Thailand, where they actually don't use chopsticks, and comparing that to eatign Thai food in the US (where they always give you copsticks), I concluded that I definatley prefer the non-chopstick approach.

While a fork is more efficient, it just doesn't "feel" like chinese unless I am using chopsticks with it!
