I dont understand how someone could believe in god. I am not bashing religion, but I would like some feedback. For those of you who are religious how do you believe in god? I mean they say that our universe is expanding at an accelerating speed, and eventually, everything, including atoms, will deteriorate, and everything will be cold and dead. I just cant comprehend that heaven is "not a physical place" as i have been told. How can people believe in something with no proof. And btw there is no proof that the bible is real, and yes I know that jesus was real or whatever, but i seriously doubt that he did what they say he did.

First of all, how much proof do you have that your money is worth something. Have you gone to Fort Knox and seen the gold that is supposed to be backing our dollars, most likely not. Yet you still believe in the worth of the dollar, by buy things, do you not.

Astronomers were able to determine that there was another planet(at that time it was considered to be a planet)Pluto, not by seeing it because no telescope was powerful enough, but observing something. And that was that the entity, Pluto, was affecting the orbits of the other planets.

When religions advise people to have blind faith, that is not the Bibles faith, they are talking about credulity.

The Bibles faith is defined in the Bible this way.
(Hebrews 11:1) “11 Faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld."

“Assured expectation.” Lit., “a sub-standing.” Gr., hy·po´sta·sis; Lat., sub·stan´ti·a.
*** Footnote ***

“Evident demonstration.” Or, “convincing evidence.” Gr., e´leg·khos; Lat., ar·gu·men´tum. Compare Joh 16:8 ftn.

Please not what Sir Isaac Newton said to his atheist friend:

*** gh chap. 6 p. 54 The Source of Good News—“God” ***

Newton once had a skilled mechanic make for him a model of the solar system. Balls representing the planets were geared together so as to move realistically in orbit. One day an atheist friend visited Newton. On seeing the model, he operated it, and exclaimed in admiration, “Who made it?” Newton answered, “Nobody!” The atheist replied, “You must think I am a fool! Of course somebody made it, and he is a genius.” Newton then said to his friend, “This thing is but a puny imitation of a much grander system whose laws you know, and I am not able to convince you that this mere toy is without a designer and maker; yet you profess to believe that the great original from which the design is taken has come into being without either designer or maker!”

As far as Christ's miracles--scientists used to say when they couldn't or wouldn't believe is something was impossible when they could not understand how something works but now they are more careful & have changed that word to improbable which means with much less doubt than impossible.

*** gt The Greatest Man Who Ever Lived ***

Answering such skeptics, the respected historian Will Durant argued: “That a few simple men should in one generation have invented so powerful and appealing a personality, so lofty an ethic and so inspiring a vision of human brotherhood, would be a miracle far more incredible than any recorded in the Gospels."

So did the apostles lie, were they duped by Christ. Luke was a physcian who wrote very accurately, as a doctor would. None of the writers of the Bible have a record of falsifying reports--their reputation when becoming Christs disciples was impeccable, except for Judas.

History is history, whether it is about Lincoln, Washington or whoever--You have the right to believe that the sun will shine tomorrow or not, same application to the Almighty its your free choice, just don't be offended when people express appreaciation for our Maker if that is how you indeed feel. Many times that can be a defence mechanism with people.

Not a religious sort but, I do have this understanding.

When people can go to others for conversation, good times and hear about other friendly facts of life. Some where that's clean, not cluttered and has someone to give advice for free that makes sense. They call it a church, house of worship or simply a place to complete. Why would you think there is a why in that equation?

Your disbelief is exactly the same as someone with a religious belief, the definition being no different than conservative or liberal. By claiming you don't understand might qualify you as, someone that should visit one of these sanctuaries to clarify why you don't.

If you are sure there is no proof and that the human race will deteriorate what have you got to lose.

If you said you were ashamed of people that believed in a deity for no reason and did not want to associate with them, I could understand your statement but, you didn't!

I know many people use the excuse to deny religion based on the amount of money they are expected to give, to my knowledge, none of those people (I know) never gave anyway.

Be sure and proud of your belief, don't deny others theirs.

No proof - that means faith. Christians believe certain things because they have faith, not because anyone has ever proven any of it to them. There is NO proof for God, for heaven, for hell, for proving what the Bible says is true. In fact, the first verse of Hebrews 11 even tells us, "Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen". Christians have the assurance, the hope of heaven and that the Bible is true, but don't really know for sure. That is faith.

Faith is a little boy's belief that, when he jumps off the kitchen table, his dad will catch him. Faith is going to bed at night and believing the sun will rise in the morning. Faith is parking your car in a mall lot and believing it will still be there when you want to drive home. What about this: A man was lost in the desert and was near death for lack of water. Soon he came across a pump with a canteen hung on the handle and a note. The note read as follows: "Below you is all the fresh water you could ever need, and the canteen contains exactly enough water to prime the pump." Will the man have faith to pour out the whole contents of the canteen for a promise of unlimited water?

Many Christians were born into Christian families, have grown up with Christianity and that way of thinking and believing. It's what is familiar and right. Two of my coworkers are Hindus, were born into Hindu families, and have never considered any other religion. They believe their holy book is true. Hinduism is what is familiar and right to them. The same goes for Muslims or Jews -- or even atheists who believe in NO God and NO heaven and NO hell.

No reasoning on your part can ever convince you there is a God or a heaven or a hell or that the Bible is true.

Well, that's a big question. Let's take it in pieces. First, yes, there are physicists who theorize that the universe is the proportionate size to have insufficient mass to reach a critical point and then collapse...there are others who say that is bunk...

Either way, that's tens of thousands of millions of years away. It's not going to happen by the time you retire or anything. So don't sweat it.

As to people of faith who have no proof: Christianity is a "revealed religion," which means you don't need proof because you believe it is true. It will all work out OK, so no worries. If you don't buy that, you're a skeptic...congratulations, you're not alone. At the same time: what are you going to do in tens of thousands of billions of years when the universe blinks into nothing? Well, you won't be here...so whatever! Have a drink, go to Spain, enjoy your life! The universe isn't going to do much of anything in the meantime: live a good life!...doubt, have faith...pick a side and join the party!

I am your target audience.

You believe things everyday for which you have no proof. You believe that when you drive down the road that people are not going to run a red light and smash into you.

To believe in no God takes as much faith as to believe in a God as there is no proof either way.

As for the evidence of the bible and Jesus: There is more documentary evidence of Jesus and his crucifixion and ressurrection than there is of Hannibal crossing the alps. And yet the latter is considered absolutely historically reliable.

As far as documentation goes: I have posetd a link below. It is from an apologetics forum but the documentation evidence is verifiable from other archeological and documentary sources.

You will see that the table lists the numbers of copies of the various types of documents, the dates they were supposedly written, the date of the earliest copy and so on. You can see that that the New Testament (which documents Jesus specifically) has waaaaaaaaay more copies with a closer time span between the original and the copy. It also lists the accuracy as greater than any other secular document.

It is not proof mind you, but it is certainly smoking gun evidence.

I can't tell you what to believe...I grew up religiously and then turned away from God later on and tried alot of other things during that "finding me" stage. You want to know how do I believe in God? Well two years ago my family and I were living in this apartment in Las Vegas, where my children and I were brutally attacked by something very evil...My oldest son who was 7 at the time was so terrified we had to have him committed 3 times. Long story short .. as a result I realized that if these things existed then I know for sure that God exist. By the way....Even as a Christian who was recently re-baptized I have to admit that I'm not to hoo-ha about the idea of heaven for me because this life hasn't been all the great. Does that make me any less in God's eyes? No because he knows why I feel that way.

I agree with you there is no proof of the things stated in the bible. Did Jesus perform all the miracles stated in the bible? I doubt it, At that time people were extremely superstitious and there were people who claimed to do miracles around every corner. Was there a world flood? Every culture seems to have had one. Hamarabi marched animals onto an ark just like Moses supposedly did. The two tales are almost identical, except that the tale of Hamarabi is written on a stele and is in a museum and it predates Moses by 500 years. There are examples that contradict the bible all the time, but christians seem to tenaciously hang onto their doctrine. Perhaps they are fooled into believing it, because it is folklore mixed with fact. A christian will always say that you have to have faith but faith is not proof. I do admit however, that I believe in intelligent creation. things are just too complex to have happened at random.

I'll immediately deal with your doubt. The Apostle Thomas doubted even after Jesus walked the earth with him doing all of those things the Gospel says he did, appeared to Thomas after death and made him touch his scars. If you really desire to know the answer to your question because you have this innate desire to know and not because you need proof...pray and ask God to give you understanding, wait on it in peace and stop looking at the physical things for proof. Believing in God is a spiritual thing. I'm a Christian, I don't think I'm better than anyone, I've had lots of struggles and hardship in my life but I've always believed that something bigger than me created me and the world I live in. I still have hardships in my life, who doesn't? There was one time I didn't understand the Bible but because I desired to understand it, now I do. I've just always known in my spirit that I was put here for a purpose which is to live the best life I can, treat people with respect (despite how they treat me), always "pay it forward" by helping people not just because they helped me but because I want to help them and not just when it's convenient...sometimes it's terribly inconvenient but things always manage to work out...often better than I planned it. That's how I know there is a God. As far as the Bible is concerned, for me, it's written confirmation for all of the things that happen in life the Good and the Bad.

Yes, the bible is real. I can hold it in my hand, I can read it or burn it. I can hand it to some one else. The contents of the Christian Holy Bible has always up for debate.

Now, if there is no God, then that leaves humans to answer " how did it all start? ".

Are you taking on faith that the universe was always there with no proof to support this conclusion? Are you taking it on faith that the universe created it self, with no evidence to support it?

God or no, either way, it's a leap of faith. Good luck with that.

Best wishes.

There are the typical answers like read the bible, faith, etc. But I guess the holy spirit will let you know when it is time to meet him. The only way to know if He is real or not is to open your mind to what He has to tell you rather it is through the bible or maybe seeking out a minister or someone that is very knowledgable of the bible. I wish you the best of luck in your search. Maybe God has spoken to you and you aren't even aware of it and that is why you are seeking??
