Cats hate the smell of oranges, so you can probably make some creative orange peel decorations or lay orange peels around the base of the tree. If that doesn’t work, lay large, unstable items around the tree, so that they cant jump into the branches. Also, always have a squirt bottle handy so you can spray your cat when she starts climbing. If all of that doesn’t work, get one of those small model trains that run around your Christmas tree. Cats hate electronic devices and even if the train is not on, the cats will learn to recognize it as something they don’t want to go near.
(please note: don't spray her when the chrismas lights are on)

It's hard, cats like to climb trees. What I use is a squirt bottle of water. When my cat climbs on something I don't want her to I spray her with water. It's easy and harmless.

If you can stand the smell of moth balls that might help, cats do not like the strong oder, that's what I put in and around my plants so my cat will stay out.

Are you kidding? The cat knows a cat toy when the cat sees one.
