Good question! I personally think it should be illegal because it is a form of dog abuse. If the dog is tied up on the tray of a ute it might see something, try to jump and get killed! The dog could even (if it wasn't on a leash or broke free of the lead) jump and get run over by a passing vehicle. It is cruel! Dogs should be transported at the very least in the very back of a car (that is a 4WD or a station wagon, not a boot!) Or at least be able to go at someones feet in the seats area behind the driver. My dog gets either a proper seat (he is a little bit spoilt, he's not really small (about 23kg/50lb) or goes on the ground when my whole family is riding in the car.

It should be illegal! It is not fair on the dog. If you want to treat them that way don't travel with the dog.

good question. i may well be nervous my dogs might get hit by using a vehicle. besides the fact that one time I had my dogs on a tie down exterior (screws into the floor with an prolonged carry approximately it). He went loopy over a boxer and ripped the full element out of the floor (he became into basically 50 lbs). i became into so embaressed chasing him down the line with a 30 foot long leash.

there are laws for having them attached to the vehicle when in a truck. the only laws regarding having a dog in a vehicle is that they can not be in your way when driving. i feel the same as you that they should be belted in they make really good belts for them that keep them from running around in the car.

Simple. If your dog is injured there is no chance it will end up in a hospital draining Govt. resources. Humans on the other hand can lay in there on a respirator for MONTHS or even years, and we the tax payers often have to pick up the tab.

Because the Poochie Cops can't run fast enough to catch the humans driving the car, they decided not to write such a stupid seat belt law for their canine brethren!

Because Dogs have enough sense not to make laws for other dogs. And people will always try to control what other people do / don't do.

Because a dog has more sense than a human being and can sense danger versus the human instinct of spur of the moment.

We are considered to be too stupid to keep ourselves from dying and we, as humans, must be closely regulated. If one person dies we have a million new laws so that we do not lose another sacred human. Dogs are considered expendable, humans are considered to be irreplacable.

How exactly do you plan to strap an animal into a safety harness? Least of all a cat?

It isn't even remotely possible. Animals won't understand and won't put up with it.
