He seems very happy when he is "pretending". I was wondering why he does this?

Some fixed male cats still have the instint to mark. I have an 8 year old (nuetered at 5 months) cat and when the local tom cats spray our house George will go over it with his "spray" . As long as he's not acually spraying (George sprays urine) then there is nothing to worry about.

My cat is over 9 yrs old and he also pretends to spray. The vet called it posturing. Even though my cat is neutered he's still very territorial and if he was given the chance he'd be out in the alley fighting all comers. The vet politely called it "attitude".

I agree with the first person, he's just marking his territory even though he's not actually "spraying" and do be grateful of that! On a similar topic my spayed dog "humps" my stuffed animals and my slippers. I thought she was horny but the vet said she's just trying to show her dominance. Weird!

My female cats do it too. I don't think it's a spray thing, just a co-incidence that they like to "shake their tail feathers" when they're happy.

Just be happy that he's just pretending!

He is marking his territory, if nothing happens, don't worry!
