i've been talking to this guy since about August we go to the same school. we've talked a few times and we live in the same neighborhood. About 3 weeks ago we started flirting a lot and i thought i might have had a crush on him, but now i just found out that we are cousins? what should i do? just stop talking to him? cousins dating isn't that kind of looked down on by society?

if you did not even know he is your cousin he must be pretty distantly related, if you like him go ahead and date.

No one has actually given you any advice on what to do, so i'll be the first. I think that you should explain to your family how you feel about each other. If you and him expect to continue with the relationship many states allow marriage between first cousins. Here s a list: Alabama, Alaska, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia It is really up to you both and not your family whether or not the relationship will work out and you also have to take into account that childbirth between cousins may cause genetic birth defects.

Just keep it friendly go on hang out but just be friends make a joke of the story with some good friends after a while the bad vibe and the feeling of you did something wrong will go away.

I read in the New York Times magazine once that there are no genetic reasons why first cousins can't date. No higher incidence of birth defects, etc.

honey, you can't date your cousin, there's a lot of guy out there waiting for you, just try to avoid him and fall in love with someone else to get your mind off of him

I don't know about you but whether he was my 1st cousin or 3rd cousin I couldn't be with him! Everytime I would kiss him or god forbid anything else all I would be able to think is "Your my cousin"! EWWWWW!
