some people do fall asleep. most people don't but it's not abnormal to fall asleep. i like to read when i get tattooed. reading relaxes me and makes the time go by more quickly. plus i always have to sit upright when i get tattooed and that would not make a good time to fall asleep, i'd probably fall out of the chair.

What's normal? Who's to say?
I just know that to me, getting a tattoo is the most relaxing thing.., and I fall asleep just about every time I get one. My last one was a huge dragon on my thigh, so I got some nap time with that one.

I had a really busy day the day I got my first one in August this year. My artist had one of those massage chairs that you sit forward in and rest your head( My tatt's on my upper middle back). I believe I nodded off for about 15 mins or so in about the 2 hour mark in a 4 hour session. She gently woke me when I started to snore. I got so relaxed, and the buzzing of the gun was soothing. I didn't hurt that the shop was pretty quiet during my session.

I was not able to doze off during the start of my calf sleeve last week. I was in an awful position and was not comfortable. I go back for color later this month. I might be able to snooze thru that....lol So yea, I would say it's normal :)

Finally...someone that understands me!!! I tend to nap, but not pass out. I'll tell my artist that I feel like taking a nap and not to worry. I usually sleep for 45min-1hr.

I do everythign when I'm getting tattooed; eat, talk on phone, surf internet. the pain gets soothing after 10 minutes or so.

On the flip side...i've seen people pass out...not cool.

lol I did it once too! Where on your body did you get it? The one on my lower back of my neck didn't hurt at all and I dozed off. I wonder if it has something to do with releasing tension or pressure points and stuff like acupuncture? Thats what it was like for me. If all my tattoos felt like that I'd have a dozen more.

Its probably not common, but I wouldn't say its normal or not. To me I like watching the process, so I would never fall asleep, but to each his own I guess.

It is also very tranquil to me! People think I am nuts. I have my entire back tattooed and one of my friends videotaped the last session I had to finish it and I was snoring!! I love the pain! So it's ok, I would say your normal.

You must be able to tolerate pain. Tattoo are painful. That fact that you fall asleep, must mean that you have little pain. That is awesome.

i never fell asleep, but i've never been in a really comfortable position while getting one. when i got my first one, i was just watching tv, the other ones i was just bored. the whole experience is very relaxing with the hum of the needle and the state of mind.
i can see how you would fall asleep.

a lot of ppl say it's kinda like going into a meditative state...so you just go real deep into mediation.
I find the sound very relaxing myself of course after a few hours the pain kicks in but for the first 2 I could sleep!!
