Do you also have Office XP (Office 2003)? Only Office contains Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access, Front Page, etc.
If you don't want to buy Office, you can try an open office suite by OpenOffice that would open Excel, but I don't know about PowerPoint.

Use OpenOffice. It has everything Microsoft Office has and more. Also, you can use open office to open Microsoft Office powerpoint, excel, word, etc. files. And you can create something in OpenOffice and save it as a microsoft word doc. microsoft powerpoint file, etc. And it's all free =D.

I'd give RedSoxer best answer for this; Open Office is completely compatible with MS Office, you can open and read any Office Suite file, edit and save as with no problems. Not only that but it will also Save As PDF.
And its free.
You can also download the tutorials.
