if a guy that you have a crush on ( and knows that you do)says that he cares about you,what does that mean?is it a step away from saying that he has deeper feelings about you?sounds obvious but I just dont get how much he cares?thanx people

He's just not that into you.
There's a book by this title, a guy wrote it, breaking down the harsh reality of guys' attitude.
Basically, wome, myself included, tell themselves elaborate stories to convince thmselves things are going there way. But in all honesty, had he been interested, and he knows you're interested - what's stopping him? nothing.
He might enjoy the ego boost, but not much more.
I say your best chance is to be chilled: smile your brightest smile at him and say: "oh, I care about you too. As a friend.", and casually mention this great new guy you have started dating.

This is a cop-out. "caring" about you could mean anything - he could care about you as a person, as a friend, as a crush, as anything. Assume the least - he cares about you a person, he wishes you well. But if he doesn't follow it up with anything (like asking you out or flirting with you), then he doesn't care about you as a crush, the same way you feel about him.
If you really want to find out, don't ask a bunch of strangers - ask him, flat out, if he would like to go out with you.

I agree with the others, sounds like he's trying to let you down gently. When anyone ever says that to me, it usually means the kiss of death for any relationship.

two meanings. One, he likes you. Two, he cares about you and doesn't want to hurt you because he doesn't like you.
