Sometimes one can live in a very sheltered life not being exposed to other cultures and diversities in this world. I'm wondering if seeing how many people here are passionate about their faiths, beliefs and way of life has opened your eyes that it is beautiful to see diversity in religions just as how it is great to enjoy many different cuisines, languages, ethnicities and ways of life that color our world.

Has this experience caused you to be less judgmental, more tolerant and accepting of these many different modes of transportations towards the one destination which is God? If not, then why not?

I have not always been open about accepting any other way but my own. I grew up in the Mormon culture, and was only exposed to that faith. I never even KNEW that believing anything else was optional.
I grew up in a bubble, and then I met my husband, and he showed me a completely different world!
I had never lived outside of Utah in my life. He came, and took me all the way to New York! That was a huge culture shock, right there.
I know that I am ignorant on many things, but learning helps me to really be aware of what is out there, and him being a deployed soldier has given me access to a new WORLD view, rather then my sheltered little Utah Bubble.
Life is an enriching experience with many diverse beliefs...some I agree with, some I don't
but the ability to DISagree is a whole new thing for me, and I'm loving this new found freedom!

I have always held the idea that we all need to just accept others religions as their own way of worship toward God it is not about who is right and who is wrong and which religion is the best its about keeping the belief of God alive and strong....
I always had an open mind toward others beliefs but Yahoo Answers has opened my eyes to ideas of other cultures that I never really knew before. Besides the ignorant questions that pop up every once and a while I have found alot of informative answers on here.

Sadly, what it has taught me, to my surprise, is how very many intolerant people there are in the world.

You see, in my personal life, the people I hang with are open-minded and accepting; Christians, Jews, Pagans, Muslims, Buddhists - all of them Interfaith type people.

It's been quite a shock to read the nastiness here directed at pretty much any and all religions by other religious people.

much less. i'm sorry I ever got here & have been given caught right here. I used to determine all of us with a extra tolerant eye. I see each and all the assaults right here & take up whether or no longer it represents genuine worldwide. I additionally think of genuine worldwide certainty i might met the nicer end & those no longer asserting. regrettably i think of this represents genuine worldwide extra effective than i might decide for to know -- in the event that they might do it in the back of an avatar. i'm jewish. the dislike flowing at Judaism the religion, plus extra in the present day bigotry at Jews, is staggering. I see some at different religions too that have effected me, yet those take my breath away.

Very good question....
It's made me sad to think so many people are so intolerant of each other. It has also made me look for that knd of intolerance in myself. I've become less tolerant of those religious extemists that give the "we are the best and everyone else is going to hell....only through...blah blah...then you will realise that we are God's chosen...blah blah..." statements.

The following was an answer I gave which might demonstrate my feelings:

P.S. WOW! A thumbs down after 4 minutes. I wonder if the person was a Bush supporter or a Bin laden supporter?

Oh yes, and a Happy Christmas to all of you - regardless of your faith or North/South thumb orientation!

A little of both. Still marvel at the younger bunch who believe in fairytales, adam and eve, but marvel at those who have gone on to college, taken some course in Religion, and realized that supernaturalism is just beyond experience. Those tend to be more pan-theistic, or at least humanistic. In general, have found that adults over 25 who still believe in christian fundamentalism are not and never will be college material, and will always be the bottom of the food chain as far as abilities to command good salaries in large companies requiring good thinking skills. But, hey. This country still requires a strong guy to pound a nail and read a blueprint, and still requires a lady to wait tables, so...... in the end, does it make any difference? If one finds comfort in "leaving one's fate to god" then be prepared for a not very rewarding ($$$) life, but at least an honest one (hopefully).

(Then again, there are the G. Bush types who SAY they hear god, yet are making themselves and their cronies rich, at the cost of the little guy....)

Yes. It has taught me to remember that there are a few christians that are decent and wonderfull people. The same with muslims. And I have learnt that there are pagans, witches etc that want to be respected also. Its great. As an atheist of course I see that all 'supernaturalism' is completly nonsesnse. Monotheist religions completly dangerous. But there are some smaller 'blind' followers of these religions that are good people.

Peace

Don't worry about the spelling. We knew what you meant. Yes, it has really helped me to be more tolerant of other peoples views. I still can't say there is another way to heaven except through Jesus because there isn't. He is the only way. But I can respect where people are at and know that it is all a matter of growth.

Not tolerant, that is for sure- It has made me want to share God's word more and more, becasue I see so much filth in this place- so much blasphemy- that I want to continue sharing God's word IN LOVE- not out of hate or anger- but God's word is powerful and I know that by using scripture, many hearts may turn to the truth! "For faith comes from hearing and hearing the word of God" Romans 10:17 -There are new people on here everday...that is why I continue to share the truth of God. But I would not be mean to someone....that is unacceptable.

more tolerant? only to those who are tolerant to my faith (I used to be intolerant to other faiths as a whole)
more understanding? I`m working on it
less ignorant ? defenitley
less judgmental? I don`t get it
accepting? it depends on the situation (I still don`t accept anyone who promotes things like pornography,adultrey,...etc.) if he/she believes something which isn`t against my belief then fine!
