If depends on which airline you bought the tix from like a normal airline vs budget airline.
With a normal airline, you usually can but there's a financial penalty if you change it before you have flown.
I think there's usually no financial penalty after you've started flying with the ticket.
You really have to check the terms and conditions of the ticket purchase on the website to confirm. If it's the ultra cheap airlines e.g. easyjet you definitely have to pay the difference.

Someone mentioned purchasing flight insurance, to cover costs to change flights.
Beware, and read the fine print.
Many only are insuring against a situation such as death in family, or similar.
Not insuring a change needed because of convenience or because you just changed your mind.

Sure, they will charge you a fee though, probably about $100. If you book through Hotwire or the like, get insurance that they offer, just in case you have to change anything.

I don't know but whatever you do, make sure there aren't any ragheads on your flight. Otherwise you just might crash into a building.
