If you live in Barberton (go Magics!), then open a bank account there. I don't know if any of the check cashing places would take something that large (besides, I'm sure there is a good fee).

Every bank I have ever worked with has the same policy for cashing checks. If you have an account at the bank, you can cash/deposit any check. If you don't have an account, you can cash checks drawn on that bank for a fee. Otherwise, your out of luck. Your employer may have an agreement with a bank to allow their payroll checks to be cashed without fees.

Open a bank account with it. That way you don't have to throw a chunk of it away to some low-life check-cashing leech service.

Would you take a job where the boss deducted 10% per paycheck to let you have your money? Of course not. So why would you let a company you don't even work for do that?

You should be able to cash it at the bank that made out the check. That's what I did when I moved before I opened a new bank account.

I don't know about your town though, but prepare to have ID on you.

Any bank that the check is drawn on, or your local bank where you have an accout, regardless where that is....Jeez!
