Just go NORTH on PCH until it turns into Hwy 101 in Oxnard. Continue North on the 101 until you get to Hwy 33. go east on hwy 33 all the way through Ojai and continue through the hills until you get to Hwy 5. Hwy 5 will veer off but stay to the right on Hwy 99. Take Hwy 99 to Hwy 58 east. Take Hwy 58 east over the mountain pass to Hwy 40. Head east on Hwy 40 until you get to the old Route 66 cut-off. Take the cut-off out into the desert until you come to Hwy 62. Take Hwy 62 west back in to Twentynine Palms and continue through town until you come to the Interstate 10 Fwy. Take I-10 to the Palm Springs exits at Eisenhower Rd, etc.
Or for the helluva it, be adventurous, take PCH south to and through the McClure tunnel in Santa Monica and onto Interstate 10 and continue all the way to Palm Springs. About 2 hours.

From Malibu, get on the 101 east to the I-5. The go I-5 north to Sacramento, then I-80 east to Reno, then US-395 south. Stay on this for about 7 hours till you get to Barstow. From there, ask someone for directions the rest of the way.

Yes, just take the 10 freeway.... it will go all the way to Florida if you keep driving. Palm Springs will be about 100 miles east.
