I was told to apply Benedry Cream to my puppy's ear rash. Is it safe? I want to make sure before I apply it, that if I put it on and she scratches her ear and then licks her paws or one of my other dogs grooms her, that what they lick off, won't be toxic to them

If your vet told you to apply it then go ahead. Like Dolly said it could also be a number of other things like yeast or even ringworm. If you or someone else in you family is itching it could be ringworm. It could also be a type of mange which is not uncommon in puppys. Depending on what type of mange it is (if thats what it is) it could be contagious to other animals and people. I would recommend going to the vet to see what type of rash you are dealing with because if you treat certain mange with a steriod it makes it worse. So your vet can tell you exactly what it is and how to treat it.

A veterinarian is a doctor and the veterinary technician is the equivalent of a nurse, both respectable careers. But remember, if this matters to you, the veterinarian (doctor) makes a lot more money than the technician.

It is ok to use in small amounts. Just make sure you rub it in well and everything should be fine. If rash continues make sure you take her to the vet- because there are several things that can cause a rash other than an allergic reaction. Good luck-I hope she feels better soon.

Call your vet and double check, better safe than sorry. Also, the rash may be a yeast infection or ear infection and will need alternative medications to assist it in clearing up.

Why don't you call your vet? Never and I mean Never apply anything to your animal if you don't know the cause. You could make things worse for your dogs and your wallet.
