I have a cat who loves to stay in the garage. When I bring her in, she'll stay in a while and want to go back out. If it's in the 40's outside, is it too cold for her, or are cats ok at that temperature. Should I bring her inside or is it warm enough for her outside?

Rule of thumb I heard:

If it is too cold for YOU to be outside, it is too cold for your pets!

My 2 cats like to play in the garage but I leave them in there 30 mins MAX. The temp is in the 40's here too and I don't want to risk their getting cat colds or what... so... whether they are ready to come back in where its warm and all, I take them in and try to make the lounge an interesting place to be in. Usually, they perch by our huge living room window and watch and watch and watch.

I have strays that live near me and one has kittens that are no more than 6 wks old - so long as the cat has shelter it will be OK. I have a shelter I built (no heat in it but insulation in the form of straw) for the stray. It was only in the teens here last night and the kittens were out running around playing this morning. Cats get winter coats. If the cat has access to a bed in the garage it should be fine. You might want to consider a box with hay for a bed.

I have 4 cats that live in our garage. As long as they have a warm, dry place to sleep, they are OK. Our cats all have cat beds.

Domestic cats are extremely prone to frostbite.

If the temp dips below freezing for very long, the cat can and most likely WILL be affected.

I suggest you keep your cat indoor....it's too cold for a cat staying out alone. My cat stays indoor...where it's warm and cozy.
