I took a trip to the Carmax yesterday and they showed me their "bottom line" price with tax with no fees and that was thee bottom line. And they told me how other dealers would try to screw you over and how they do their whole add-ons and make more money out of you. Has anyone else bought from the Carmax? If so, is this true? Good or bad experience?

If you're buying used mid to high mileage used, CarMax is the best way to go. The "Maxcare Extended Service Plan" essentially offers new car warranty coverage on every mechanical and electronical aspect of the vehicle. If you were buying a car with 60k and planning on driving it for awhile, you can rest assured that when you hit 75k and your transmission dies out young, it's not going to cost you 3 thousand dollars plus whatever else joe mechanic throws in there.

If you want something that's going to last, CarMax is your best bet. All the cars are clean and legit and they won't sell you one that isn't. The window stickers are straight forward and the only additional charges come from the maxcare program (which is reasonable) and the few mandatory fees your state might charge.

New cars depreciate about 30% when you drive them off the lot.
If you sell a CarMax car back to CarMax, you're likely to get a (slightly) better price. CarMax cars do cost a bit more, but again, you're buying piece of mind.

I got my car from CarMax and she's my baby. I definitely recommend them to my friends who aren't looking for toys but for reliable automobiles...as cliche as it sounds. : )

Best of luck!

You can't go wrong with CARMAX!!!

If you are in doubt, do come comparison shopping. You won't be able to get a better deal from a dealer, even if you showed them Carmax's paperwork.

Also keep in mind that Carmax isn't going to sell you a vehicle that's been in an accident, and they check your vehicle in several areas that most car lots will not.

Do yourself a favor and enjoy your future Carmax vehicle.

Carmax is a good place to buy a car if you know nothing about the business.

They sell for more than most dealerships, but they buy for more that all dealerships.

I used to work at a dealership and the sales people told them to sell their car across the street at CarMax and come back here to buy a car.

If you are in the market for a high-end used car check http://www.motobidia.com/index.asp first. You set the price in an auction environment and you won't have to pay anything on top of your bid (except for registering the car in your home state). The selection is national and the shipping is free. You will easily save hundreds or even thousands from the best price you are finding elsewhere.

Car max buys good used cars and sells them for retail and they don't move on their prices.

You could find the same quality car at any other major car lot and get it for 2 - 3 thousand less. Do'nt buy from carmax
