Nothing, except to be there for her when she needs you to be.

You know, sometimes it is best to let a person grieve by theirselves for a little bit, so they can be in piece while memories run through their minds. However, remember you are all family and times like these call for talking or just sitting together. If it hard for you to say something, opt to order in pizza and watch some tv. Even if you don't watch, you are still together and sometimes, some people need a distraction to start talking. (less pressure) It may be a hard night, but we can't let our loved ones get down. We have to always strive to make this world a better place, not by buying gifts or spending money. Take a car ride to a different place, eat at a diner...little things. For me, the woods and running water seem to bring me home. I hope this helps you and I am sorry for your loss.

If she is still silent after 3 days, seek medical help or a grief counselor or priest or minister. You may wish to seek a grief counselor yourself to know how to help your mom. Be as supportive as you can be and dont pressure her, but by the same token, dont allow this silence to go beyond 3 days. Death of older relatives is a natural event in life.

Give it time. The body works wonders on healing itself. Your mom not only has to deal with her emotions, but the loss of a loved one, probably arranging the funeral, and helping others (like you). She's overwhelmed and at a loss right now. Be supportive and lean on each other. Time will help....

Give her time. More then likely that was her father? think of the pain you would feel if you lost one of your parents. give it some time. Your mom is in great pain now and needs you to be as supportive as possible.

keep the house staightened up, try to assist her in any way & 4 right now without saying a word, pour her drinks(soda, juice, koolaid, tea etc.etc.) you know what she likes & how she likes it, so just be there, be her silent assistant, write her a note/letter letting her know that you love her, & you are there with & 4 her.. just stay strong okay??!! be strong 4 her & let her know that you are.. good luck & stay strong
