Listen to your parents. They're taking the time to tell you what they know. I learned from my friends and let me tell you....I wish I had learned more from my parents because I made some pretty bad choices.
Your parents are more experienced and they've been around longer. You friends are probably your age and either going through it themselves, but they don't have past experience to base anything on. Or they're telling you things they are hearing which doesn't make them a reliable source.

There is nothing spectular or amazing about sex. It is actually kind of dangerous being that AIDS and STDs are at an all time high in addition to unwanted pregancies.
If you are a virgin then it is best that you stay that way until you are married. Otherwise if you have sex now, you may find yourself in relationship that does not lead into marriage.... ever. You do not want to be the type of person that ends up having multiple sex partners because you were consistently trying to find the right mate.
If you are at a young age, many of the relationships you encounter from friendships to courtships will not last forever, I know it sounds sad but statics have shown it to be true. As well, if you are still living with your parents then you should also avoid sex, as this tends to mean that you are young and do not have the means to support yourself; in addition it means that 9 times out of 10 the person you are dating will not have the means to support you either, ie: two highschool students living at home.
To go along with that sex should be for those that are mature (not that your not) and not everyone that has sex has the right mind set. Some see it as a bond or connection to the ones that they really love(husband/wife) where as others see it as a recreational activity. Sex is not a game or some kind of hobby. It is very serious and can involve various emotions, emotions that can be hard to deal with if one is of a young mind set. With that being said, there really should be no rush for sex as there really is nothing all that great about it unless it is with the one that you love and will hopefully love for the rest of your life (marriage).
Now, I know that marriage is not on the rise right now either, as statics also show that 1 out of 2 marriages ends in divorce. However, consider how much better it would feel if you had sex with only one person (the person you married); in the chance that you two got divorced you would feel alot better about yourself knowing you tried to do it the right way.
Still no matter what if one thing you should keep in mind is this... Sex will always be there and you cant miss something that you've never had. Plus, you can only loose your virginity once.

Not sure how old you are but I assume you're under 16. At that age, your friends are probably just as clueless as you are and are giving you info they've picked up from each other, which is probably wrong! As for your parents, depending on how strict they are, they may try to scare you into not having sex by exaggerating the bad aspects of sex. My advise, get a library card and take out some books on sex written specifically for young people. And read some romance novels...may not be the best advise but that's how I learned about sex! But definitely read some books on sex and try and steer clear of looking stuff up the Internet unless it's a well know medical site. Good luck!

If you don't understand then perhaps you are too young to consider it. Your parents aren't going to steer you wrong, they I'm sure want to protect you. Listen to them....
