atheists... what if we're wrong? and i don't mean all the science we spew at christians. i mean, what if there is a god that loves us?
but christians, don't get cocky, i still have quite a bit of doubts here. i don't know if i'm atheist or christian right now. i've wanted to believe there was a god for a while, but i just can't seem to. and at the same time, i hear some of the answers christians give and it repluses me that someone can get that deep into it. it really sounds brain washed.
but i realised something. none of us are being true to ourselves. atheists, you always say you want to just be left to your beliefs, but roaming this place and answering atheist/christian questions or asking them, it just spreads hate. same thing the christians do. your loving god wouldn't do that. if jesus encountered an atheist he would be truely saddened, but he wouldn't make himself seem better than you when he speaks to you. i think we all have lost the way.. what do you think? help me, please.

okay, whoa whoa whoa. i'm atheist, but i spoke to my boyfriend, who is christian, and it got me thinking. that was last night and now i am wondering things. he didn't give me a god talk, he just showed me how we bash at each other, which is what i'm seeing with alot of the answers i'm getting. some people are taking this seriously, but most of you guys are giving me lame, half assed, ******** answers. i'm really serious about this, we're being rude to the christians when we slam their beliefs down their throat. let them believe what they wish. but i also ask the same from christians. we start alot of fights, but you guys do too. thats all this forum is. every other question makes a massive fight. i'm asking the atheists to think about why they're doing this.. you're not changing the christians beliefs, it's stupid to think you can. and the christians won't sway the atheists. i'm thinking about going on the middle ground, and figuring out where i stand. thats the point of this question.

I don't spread hate, but I realize that the people who are use to coming on here for awhile automatically assume that you are because they are use to being attacked or have had bad personal experiences or what ever...As for this whole battling of each other trying to figure out who's right and who's wrong, I agree with you about "if Jesus encountered one of us"... I always say and believe that science is how and God is why, but no one likes to even consider this scenario...Have we all lost our way??? Most of us have, but it is not up to other people to lecture everyone as to who is and who isn't right! Regardless of the situation we all still need to respect one another.

What if we're wrong? I don't know, what if we're wrong about Allah? What if we're wrong about Brahma? What if we're wrong about Zeus? They're all on the same level as far as I'm concerned; the only reason that Yahweh gets special attention is because more people follow that religion than any other.

If I'm wrong, then I'm not too worried. I've spent a large portion of my life searching for the right answer. I tried VERY hard to convert to Christianity at one point. I tried to force myself to accept the answers that Christians are often comfortable with, like "just have faith" or "God did it -- just accept it". And I just couldn't do it. My common sense wouldn't allow it. And the lack of convincing physical evidence didn't help matters much either. So the way I see it is this: If we really have a God who is all-knowing, then he should already know that I looked at this entire issue honestly and came to the best decision that I could possibly make based on my own reason and logic. If he's all-knowing then he should already know how much I tried. And if that's not good enough for him, well, so be it, because I can't do any more than I've already done.

Also, on your last point... I don't understand how atheists answering questions on here is somehow "spreading hate". What's wrong with us being here? There's nothing wrong with dissenting voices.

I'm neither christian( in a sense what Christians think they are made of) nor an atheist. I am somewhat in between practicing an open mind in ideas and belief. Yes, I am a God believer with keen interest on Science. I believe God supports science including controversial ones like evolution. Otherwise, there won't be evolution. It is our way of looking at those pieces of truth with our conscious feeble minds are what creating the pros and cons. Whoever have the large followers usually have bigger voice but not necessary right. This site is supposed to be an opportunity to share ideas and thoughts in most respectful ways. Sadly, it became a game of dominance and hatred as you have observed.

There are few ppl here both atheists and believers who are actually nice and level headed. They may not be in agreement with you but they don't curse or threatened you with eternal damnation.

I like the debate, as long as it is in an appropriate place. It helps you examine your own beliefs. I don't see how that is spreading hate at all, even if you ridicule parts of other beliefs as long as it is done honestly. If someone doesn't want to talk about it in an open forum, they don't have to come to an open forum.

When I want left alone is when I am out walking down the street or sitting in my house. I have never seen an atheist do that and believe me, I would have a problem with them if I did. I also feel the need to defend my tax dollars that are meant to educate, not indoctrinate our kids.

I think that without having a GOD or a supreme being who is good and just, one is a lost soal. Me? I believe there is a GOD, I believe that we didn't evolve from amebas. Else, why are there so many different creatures? Why are we not all alike? I believe the Bible was written to give us hope. Hope there is life after death, hope that there is good vs evil. Hope that life has purpose. Hope that things will get better if we pray. Hope that the next life will be peacefull if we live this life peacefull. The bible was our book on how to be civilized people. Without consequences for doing bad things, we would live in a world filled with chaos. We would have no laws except the laws of man. Which would be, take what you can! Keep what you can keep, and it will be yours. I think that without teaching our children to read the bible, we are teaching them that there is no Hell, there is no place where you can suffer for eternity for doing really bad things. So they grow to disrespect thier elders, break laws, increase crime, increase the divorce rate, have no self worth. Look what America is turning into? Do you not see that even if you do not believe in the same GOD some other people believe in, you should believe there is a creator. There is a heaven and there is a hell. You should believe this, not because I say so, but because this world needs people who have self worth. We need people who want to do good things for others, we need people who generally care about thier future and the future of the one's they love.

Church? Church is just a way to profit from our self pitty. Church is Government. Government is a way to profit from our self pitty. There should be one Government, one Church of the Human race. We should all come together to help mankind be more civilized. We should all come together to help save this planet, so we can exist in the future.

Toss what you believe to the side for a second. And believe in yourself! You can make a difference, when you first make a difference in your own lives.

I'm agnostic as good, and I do not consider nearly all of both facet see's each side... no less than no longer in those right here elements of the internets. Just getting such a lot atheists to recognize that a few quantity of religion or believe, regardless of how miniscule, continues to be required to feel in evolution is like pulling enamel. No... it is worse than pulling enamel. UPDATE: I got here to the R&S segment with the expectancy that Christians could be the preachy ones with their nostril within the air, and I used to be stunned to uncover the reverse used to be actual. Admittedly, I simply began coming to this segment, however within the 2 questions I requested, I bought plenty of self righteous and downright nasty solutions from atheists. They have a tendency to get particularly shielding in a beehive type of approach, and there is plenty of self-congratulation among them. I've additionally puzzled Christian ideals ago, and truthfully acquired not anything just about the terrible, hateful or conceited responses as I did from atheists. Well... might be conceited and self righteous, however no longer even just about nasty.

You do have a point...some atheists go too far to prove that they don't believe there is a God and some Christians push too much to *make* people believe. Jesus does encounter atheists, and no, He would not make them feel like He was better than them. If you truly love someone, then you love them whether or not they love you, which is why Jesus won't leave you or make you feel bad. All He wants is you to be happy with Him in Heaven. You don't have to be christian to believe in God, but if you are a follower of Christ, then you are a christian. I know blabbing too much will only make you care less, but here are two simple questions/answers in the catholic catechism that might help....

1) Why did God make us
To show forth His goodness and share the happiness of Heaven with us

2) What is our purpose in this life?
to know, love and serve God. If we truly do these things, then everything else kinda falls into place, no you don't have to be an outcast from society to be christian, but heck, I'd rather be that than an outcast from Heaven! Heavens forever, basically, I'd rather suffer in this short life than eternally in the next!

Some atheists here are just picking fights. I've seen them do it. But most of them aren't.

However, no matter their intentions, anything an atheist says that goes against a religious person's beliefs is going to be taken as an insult. You will see them respond with anger each and every time. It's built into their religions.

The difference between the two groups is, and this is readily apparent, is that the atheist/agnostics are willing to research both sides of the argument. That is why you often see atheists appearing condescending. Atheists, most of the time, have studied religion quite thoroughly, and science as well. On the other hand, you will see religious types on here that have studied ONLY religion, and pseudo-science that is biased and only promotes their beliefs. They will flatly REFUSE to even read anything that might threaten their beliefs.

Therefore, atheists have every right to be condescending when confronted by someone claiming to know something, when they clearly don't. For example, look at your standard fundamentalist on here making absurd statements about evolution (that no evolutionary scientist has ever claimed), then claiming it's false. This happens all day, every day around here. And atheists do get tired of it. Christians are masters at weaving strawmen.

Our responses to this sort of ignorance-based arguments are often taken as insults. And if you want to say that we are spreading hate, then that's your prerogative. But very few of us intend to insult anyone. We just can't help it when people don't want to rationally discuss possibilities. They are the ones that take offense. Not us.

The atheists just want people to be honest about their beliefs. And you cannot be honest about your beliefs if you don't study all sides of the argument. If your beliefs are true, then they will withstand anything that I, or any other atheist might say.

But the fact is, most religious people are so tightly devoted to their beliefs, and the way they make them feel, that they have no desire to even entertain any other options.

Ignorance is bliss.

I know this very well, from personal experience. I used to be one of them.

You are right about this R&S site. It is sad, that’s all. Not very many serious people would dare to share here, and that is sad.
I spent most of my life stuck in the middle and I think it is a necessary place to be for some. One day a change tried to come into my heart and I pondered it for awhile and even dared to touch it. Not being ready I rejected it. Time passed and it came again, and again. Once I stopped, and realized I couldn’t stop it from coming in, and it did. So you and others should be ware, because it will come either here or hereafter, and when it lands, you know it. So for now you are on middle ground.

What you believe will form your destiny. You have to look at it from both sides. In every aspect of life you will have a bad apple in every group. If Jesus were to see an Atheist and easily proved himself, what do you think the Atheist would do? If a christian dies and finds no heaven, what will they do? As for all the bickering that goes on both sides about who's right, you have to stand for one or the other and believe(in the end) in yourself and what you have chosen to believe. Both sides can talk all they want, but in the end you have free will and it's your choice. I am always willing to share my belief, but will not hit you upside the head with a bible, just because you disagree.. Best of luck in your choice.
