Make rice krispy treats and add in green or red food coloring so they're more "festive". Also, a couple days ago I made some brownies and I frosted them with green frosting, then drizzled them with red frosting. They were very cute :-)

Here are some other ideas I found..hope they help!

The idea from the first answerer is okay, but trust me--I've made those before! They are a pain in the butt. Hard to decorate, hard to eat, and really there's no container you could carry them in without them falling over and smearing.

Make marshmellow snowmen (or snowwomen). Use those thin pretzel sticks and spear 2-3 marshmellows on it--like a kabob. Split another pretzle stick in half and stick in the sides for arms. Use mini m&m's and a little bit of frosting for eyes and buttons, or just use black frosting. This will probably be a bigger hit with the 5-year old instead of the 3rd grader.

Since it's Christmas, another fun snack is you take a pretzle rod and dip it in white chocolate. Sprinkle the chocolate with red and green sugar sprinkles. It's great for kids because it's an easy snack for them to hold.

Something else that's cute is make jello is assorted flavors (you can substitute cold juice for the cold water to make it more flavorful). Instead of making the jello in a bowl, use a cookie sheet. Once it's cold, use cookie cutters to cut out fun holiday shapes.

My son's school doesn't allow the candy, cookies, and cupcakes, so I feel your pain! I've been a room mom also and we usually bring fruit kabobs, cheese & crackers, popcorn, etc.

One thing that did go over very well with the kids was plates of apples, drizzled with carmel ice cream topping. We sprinkled some holiday sprinkles over them and walked the plates around the room with a box of toothpicks. The presentation was great and the kids loved using the toothpicks to pick their own apples.

Another thing that goes over well is pretzel rods dipped in chocolate and coated with holiday sprinkles or colored sugar.

Have fun!

im in high school, and one of the acedemic clubs im in helps teachers with the holiday parties. the youngest ones at our school arent allowed any kinds of hard candy, or soda or anything like that, and were always on a tight budget. some of our favourite things to do are make pb&j pinwheels. just spread peanut butter and jelly on tortillas, roll them up, chill them well, and slice them. the kids seem to like the shape.
well also take popcorn, spread it out on a cookie sheet and drizzle it with melted chocolate, then mix it up with some marshmallows, pretzels, granola, and/or dried fruits. we usually try to avoid any nuts, besides the peanuts in peanut butter, just in case there are any kids that dont realize that there are nuts in the mix.
good luck!

DIY snack mix is a hit with kids (they love choices!) and super easy. Visit the bulk section of the grocery store and pick out 5 or 6 different ingredients. Granola, pretzels, mini M&Ms, dried cranberries, sesame sticks, almonds, raisins, and "O" type cereals are good starts.

Give each child a paper cup, and allow them to add spoonfuls of each ingredient to their cups until they are filled.

Each child gets a snack they'll enjoy, and the fun of creating it!

When I was a kid, I had the coolest mom. She would make these cupcakes that were just the neatest things ever. You just take regular cake mix and make it like regular cupcakes, but instead of putting the batter in cupcake cups, you pour it into ice cream cones and bake. It poofs up over the cone, just like it would in a muffin tin, and when you ice it and put sprinkles on it, it looks like ice cream. I think they're really fun and easy. I hope you at least try it. Good luck!!!

In the past we have made sandwhiches and then cut them out with holiday cookie cutters. Easy, fun, and eliminates the dreaded Crusts!
