I have an old bed that has pegs at the top. How old is it? came from my great grandfather.?

THe bed has pegs at the top. My grandfather wrapped only ropes around it and used a straw ticking on the top. I have read it is instead a bed that was made for a sack base. If so, how do I tell the age of this bed?

The bed is turn of the century. They are somewhat rare though I have seen several before in various conditions.
