My girlfriend and I have been going out for almost a year, but neither of us have had sex, we're both 18 virgins. She says she does want to have sex, and that 2 types of contraception are needed the condom, and the pill, and as she's not that keen to go and get the pill, then she doesn't want to have it? Is this normal? Should I be worried?

If she doesn't want to get the pill maybe she is too embarrassed. If she doesn't want the pill, use a condom and foam for her. But I strongly suggest the pill. And a condom too if you want to be doubly safe. Go to a community clinic together and get the pill. Good luck and have fun!

First of all, realize that the pill is not 100% effective, I think they quote 99%. So, if you do not want a pregnancy, a condom is better anyway. And why be worried. It is natural for an 18 year old girl to be a bit embarrassed about getting the pill. I see nothing wrong with that. But I agree with an earlier reply, it would be better to wait, you are only 18, not like you're on the shelf yet.

I don't know why she wouldn't want to get birth control if she wants to have sex. There are many types of birth control, the patch, the pill, the ring, the e-pill, and copper implants that she can research to find which one is best for her. If she is worried about her parents finding out, planned parenthood offices follow a policy of silence and will not let parents know about their daughter's visit unless the girl specifies that it is ok. You shouldn't be worried...no reason to be...maybe she is not really ready and is using the birth control as a cop-out.

NO NO NO!! Just because a woman does not want to take birth control pills does not mean she doesn't want to have sex. I am sexually active and I hate going on birth control. It messes up women's hormones, makes them gain weight and become more emotional with mood swings..no wonder she isn't looking forward to it. You can have sex with a condom and not take birth control. Your odds are high for NOT getting her pregnant. Also you can use some sort of spermacidal foam. They have that at local department stores.. hope this helped!

Well, let her get it anyway.
She has to be on it for more than a month, you do realize this????

Otherwise it doesn't work. And condoms don't always work.

Having both as a precaution is only wise. Unless you wanna be a "daddy" in nine months....
Think carefully about it all. But it's good that you asked for advice first.

2 types are not necessary... But they both help. If she doesnt want get the pill... she doesn't want to have sex.

Respect it.

If you can, it's worth waiting, if you can't maybe you should rethink your relationship.

Life isn't just about sex... if you enjoy being with each other it will eventually happen.

It's normal for her to freak out about messing with her body's chemistry. But you can get two other forms of birth control. You can use condoms and a diaphram, for example.

You can try going to your local Planned Parenthood office. They have trained people there who can talk to the both of you about these things. If you've waited this long, a while longer isn't going to hurt.

She's paranoid - she may want to use both for not only a contraceptive purpose but also to protect against any diseases - I know you are a virgin (right) - maybe maybe not she is smart to protect her self both ways.....

So she wants to remain a virgin? Is that a crime? Sex is very painful for the girl, the first time, maybe that is why she doesn't it?
