When I was young and poor I used to collect...now don't laugh...McDonald's Place mats from other countries. I didn't want to carry crap and I couldn't afford much so that is what I collected. Trust me, everyone wanted to see those. Now I have traveled so much I don't really bother. I have interesting memories and stories, I do not need another hard rock teeshirt. If there is something that I think is really cool from that country I will some times get something but the last thing I bought for myself was a carpet in Afghanistan. The other thing I used to collect was those flags to sow on my backpack. I am more of a suitcase traveler now. I have been thinking of starting to collect original art work though. You can roll it and have it framed at home.

Hi, I collect crosses and have a wall in my kitchen with beautiful crosses of all sizes. Some are made of glass, ceramic, wood, gold (bought in Italy at a cathedral), and beautiful designes on the crosses. My grand-daughter always notices when I hang a new one up. If you collect too many, you can always give them as gifts.

I do quite a bit of travelling and a couple of trinkets that I've collected over the years are postcards, magnets and shot glasses. These are fairly common items that you'll find anywhere, especially at airports. They are also moderately priced.

With the airport restrictions and baggage limitations, I usually collect postcards and unique magnets from every place that I visit. They are durable and lightweight. I also try to send postcards to myself in the U.S., so that I have some written memories of my travels and another souvenir.

send postcards back to your parents or whoever from every city/country you are going to and they can keep them for you and also you are getting 2 for the price of one by keeping your folks updated and also you are keeping them as a collection.

Things I collect (tend to find them in my pockets anyway!):
Beer mats, labels from beer bottles, beer bottle caps?
(Or mats, labels & caps from soft drinks bottles, if you don't drink.)
Metro/bus tickets & tokens.
The front cover of Cosmo or other international magazine from each country you've visited. (My cousin used these to decorate his bathroom wall - except the mag was Playboy...)
If I think of anything else, I'll let you know :)
