We stayed at the Days Inn right in Times Square a couple of years ago. It was very basic and around £700 for four nights for four of us. But it was a good base and we were out all day. It was literally a couple of minutes walk from Times Square.Only thing was we were right next to a fire station which was very busy! However, it was our first trip to NYC so we just wanted to experience every aspect of it!

Book the flight and hotel together with Virgin and stay at the Milford Plaza at 8th Avenue and W 45th Street. It's SO perfectly placed for everything including Times Square. The hotel is big, straightforward and not too pricey as part of a package. PS This is where airline staff stay - how good is that?

Don't go with the cheap ones. You get what you pay for so shop around. Be careful because there has been a bedbug epidemic from some of the hotels.

Grand Union Hotel, stayed there twice now and the price was very reasonable. Right in the centre of everything.

There's no such thing as a cheap hotel in NYC, we had to stay in Philadelphia and take the train in.

no longer in vast apple itself. you desire to to evaluate fees of inns in Queens and Brooklyn. some areas in those boroughs are very shady nonetheless. additionally, final minute thought, do no longer rule out close by NJ cities. there are a lot of buses/trains that consistently run into NYC from Jersey city and Newark Penn Station 24 hours.
