The mecca of camera stores is B & H Photo in NYC. www.bhphoto.com
Always check them first. If a different on-line dealer is not in the same price ballpark, then you should strongly suspect a scam.
Adorama and Calumet are also respected dealers.

The problem with the chain camera stores (and maybe big box electronic stores) is they are paid to push certain cameras, whether it is the right camera for you or not.

You can research cameras, see their features, and read reviews on www.dpreview.com or www.stevesdigicams.com.

Good luck in finding your camera!

Places like Best Buy or Circuit City have electronic "specialists" that will help you find the best one for your camera-needs and will help you find the best price for it!

Look online at www.amazon.com too :)
