"What is Migraine?
Migraine pain is often described as a severe pulsing or throbbing pain in one area of the head.
It is often accompanied by sensitivity to light and sound, nausea, and vomiting.
In some people, visual disturbances appearing as flashing lights, zig-zag lines, or temporary loss of vision precede the migraine. This is called an aura.
Migraine is three times more common in women than in men. According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, migraines were once linked to the dilation and constriction of blood vessels in the head, but scientists now believe that migraines are caused by inherited abnormalities in genes that control activities in certain cell populations in the brain.
What is the Relationship Between Migraine and Diet?
Although dietary restriction isn’t considered a treatment for migraine, identifying any foods that have triggered symptoms and avoiding those foods may help some people prevent migraine attacks.
According to a report by J Gordon Millichap, MD, published in the journal Pediatric Neurology, the list of foods, beverages, and additives thought to trigger or exacerbate migraine symptoms in some people includes:
Cheese
Chocolate
Citrus fruits
Hot dogs
Monosodium glutamate
Aspartame
Fatty foods
Ice cream
Caffeine withdrawal
Alcoholic drinks, especially red wine and beer
Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is sometimes added as a flavor enhancer in Chinese restaurants. "

There are a lot of medicines out there that are good. I've been suffering from migraines for about 17 years now and one thing I've learned is if you use a medicine too often, your body develops a sort of immunity to it and it becomes less and less effective. What I suggest is going ot a neurologist or headache clinic (in other words a specialist, not a general practitioner) and talk about medicines to try. But gauge the pain factor. If it's small, don't take the medicine, try using ice instead. Many migraines (but not all I don't think) are triggered by nerves and using ice freezes the nerve and ends the pain. If it's really bad, the ice probably won't be enough and you'll need the medicine instead. What I do is when I get a headache, I gauge the pain on a scale of 1 - 10 with 1 being almost non-existent and 10 being the worst ever. If it's a 5 or below, I use ice and sleep, if it's above 5, I take the medicine.
The biggest trick is to treat the headache immediately, don't wait a while before you ice or take medicine. The longer you wait to treat the headache the longer it takes for the treatment to work.
Be aware that the term "migraine" covers a broad array of head pain. The pain can manifest itself in many different ways and what helps one person won't necessarily help another. Just like with what triggers migraines for one person doesn't bother another. There are a lot of books out there, some older but most are fairly recent. Some books are catered to a specific type of migraine (such as migraines triggered by food, or migraines accompanyied with an aura). Take your time looking through the books and look for something that is specif to YOUR type of migraine. In the sources below, there is a good book that gives a general over view of migraines and talks about different types and all the different causes. This would be good to help you understand what kind of migraine you have and maybe even help you identify the trigger(s).

Headaches and migraines are different. Frequent headaches can be relieved with over the counters medications like Excedrin or Tylenol. Migraines settle into one side of the head or the forehead and can last for days. Unless you catch it at the onset, it just has to run it's course unless you go to the ER for a shot and even then, it will only ease it. I see a meurologist for my migraines and take Imitrex for onset migraines and Propanalol as a preventative. Mine are caused by a hormonal imbalance. A cold rag on your head, lying very still in a dark and quiet room will help alleviate the pain. I feel for you, I've suffered with migraines for 16 years now.

If you want to get rid of headaches for good ?The problem isn't as much in your head as its in your digestive system. Get some prune juice, drink 6 ounces, you'll feel the pressure subside pretty quickly. If you are over weight you'll need to drink water before. And after wards, to clean out you system drink a 6 or 8 ounces glass everyday for a week. It won't give you diarrhea unless you drink half a bottle. It is just going to relieve
the pressure and food from your diaphragm.

Headache is a pain in the head, scalp or neck. Headaches can be
caused by minor problems like eyestrain, lack of coffee or more
serious reasons like head injury, brain tumors, encephalitis and
meningitis. Taking painkillers continuously can have harmful side
effects, so it is better to modify your lifestyle. More information

Stop sitting at your computer. Get a cold compress and drink some water then lay down in a darkened room. Ive heard Botox has miraculously cured some people who regularly have migraines, but it could be the manufacturers drumming up business...! Take care and avoid stress..
