Depends on the age of the kid. I babysat when I was 12 but I realize now that all I did was feed a 2 year old and a 5 year old macaroni and cheese and watch tv while they slept.
12 is old enough. If there's an emergency, have her call your cell. I would recommend offering to pay for a children's CPR class through the red cross.

No! I would not trust anyone whom I did not know personally or did not have professional credentials that can be checked out. A 12 year old cannot possibly have enough real experience to protect your children in an emergency.Be very careful who you trust to care for the most valuable "things" in your life. How would you feel if something terrible happened because you trusted too freely. It is a Parent's job to protect their children until they can protect themselves. Too many Parents are too casual about all the dangers that can end a child's life. It is better to err on the side of too paranoid than too trusting. With paranoid you still have live children at the end of the day. The best person to care for your children is someone you have seen work with children and you know personally their parenting style and agree with it.

I was 12 when I started babysitting. My parents lived right down the road. I would pick someone who lives close by if they are that young. Litte kids also will listen to a 12 year old because they look up to them. They are big kids. I guess it depends on the 12 year old. I am thinking about letting a 15 year old start babysitting for my kids but she lives right across the street. Hope it helps!

I think I would and there are several things to be considered:
--How old are the children she'll be babysitting?
--Will she be doing this during the daytime or at night. If at night, how late will the parents return?
--How are the kids she'll be sitting? Are they generally well behaved, special needs or handicapped?
--What safety guidelines are in place? Where/how to reach the parents, emergency phone list, etc.
--Will you be home and available if she wants to call for some quick advice or feeling un-confident about the situation.
--As a 12-y.o., how mature, self-confident, and eager to try this is she?
--What is the neighborhood like where she'll be sitting?
I think this is certainly do-able and wouldn't reject the idea out of hand.

It would depend on the 12 year old, the ages of the kids and how long she would be watching them. A couple of hours on Saturday for a 3 and 5 year old I probably would. A newborn, no. I wouldn't want her to have to prepare them any meals or give them baths or put them to bed. I used to let my 12 year old daughter keep my 8 year old son occasionally.

I have a 15 month old son and i would trust him with the 12 year old next door for a few hours but i also know her and her parents would be right next door if something came up... it all depends on the 12 year old... If they are mature enough yeah i would see why not as long as it isnt for a long period of time... A few hours of baby sitting is great for a preteen. I even allow my 14 year old brother to watch my son for hours but he much more mature then most 14 year old boys

Truthfully i wouldn't leave my children with a child that young. I guess maybe if it was a next door neighbor child whos parents were at home in case of an emergency, possibly...but the youngest i have ever let watch my children was 17. Truthfully i didn't even like that much, although she was a great kid. I like to leave them with family members if at all possible and if not...i wouldnt leave them with someone that young. Good luck! Finding babysitters is hard!!!

When I was 12, I was incredibly responsible, I had my Red Cross certification in first aid, CPR and Infant CPR... and I had business cards! So if you had ME as a 12 year old babysitter, I would say yes.
However, my cousin who is 12 would probably drop a baby on its head, so it completely depends on the kid.

No, I don't think I would trust my child to be looked after by another child. However, I babysat when I was 12 years old. It was only for people in my neighborhood and only when my mother was at home to be of assistance if I needed anything.

Depends on the 12 year old, the age of the children to be babysat and the circumstances (length of time, time of day etc).
General answer to the question though: No.
