if you dont watch pay per view or have their internet then you dont NEED to hook up the phone line. I had satellite for years and always kept the line disconnected (I didnt have an outlet near by).

Probably never, simply because personal TV satellites (DirecTV for instance) aren't very good at two way communication.

If you have satellite internet, you'll see that downloads are fast (DSL fast) but uploads are slower than dialup.

Probably never. They just want you to order ppv programs. I never do because I haven't seen any movies that are worth it. The only ones I like are those made before 1970. They don't make 'em like they usta! : )

I have Dish Network and the installer said they prefer you hook it up to a landline, but as far as I know it isn't required.
