I also suffer from depression and didn't want to see my doctor, but binning my age at the time I was required to. If you doctor says "oh you'll get through this" and only has you taking the medication for help... GET A NEW ONE... but if your doctor sits down with you takes notes and gives a house call every once-and-a-while you should stick with your doctor its a rare one to find... if you feel the doctor isn't helping require the doctor to get you someone else. This is what I had to do.

Self mutilation is very dangerous and may be life threatening depending on the severity of the action. Ignoring it will not make it go away. There are deeper issues that you may need to address--please call your doctor. If you are suicidal and/or homicidal you need to be committed for a short time to receive help. Involuntary commitments are designed primarily to keep the patient or others safe-while exploring the deeper issues and learning new ways to cope, medications that may help, etc..
Good luck to you.

I would call your doctor, and no I dont think you will be committed. I have done much worse during manic episodes. Your doctor may reccomend a different medication to help you through your situation. Being in therapy is great for you as it has really helped me to deal with the highs and lows of my bipolar condition. You must give the therapy time to work on you as it did for me.

In my unprofessional opinion, I think you shoud reach out for some help. Holding things inside and taking the "wait and see" route never seem to help much. I am a firm believer in helping yourself. And, I am confident that people can do that. I also suggest getting involved in a Christian church. Having a support community and a belief system to back you up goes a long way. My prayers are with you, and I hope you can work it out.

Heres what i think....if you considered calling your doctor, then its your own way of telling yourself that you should. Hurting yourself in that way isnt healthy at all and you may lose your SO if you dont find help. Getting outside help may be a way to help you cope with your sadness, your anger, your overall way of handling the way you show your feelings. Im sure you have support and love form others, like from your SO who Im sure loves you. I wish you the best. There are other ways to have an outlet of feelings...hurting yourself or others is not the way. Try to think before you act, that might help. Hang in there.

If you went to the ER to get your stitches, they will notify your doctor. You might as well call and tell him. It'll look better if you tell him before he gets the notes from the hospital. And next time your SO makes you mad, cut up a pillow instead! You're better than that! Good luck

I too go through this, if you went to the ER, they have to inform your doctor. Do what you can to stay out of that crummy place they stick you. Jeepers, I one I was in was discussing. If you continue to be or feel you are worse, contact your doctor, He may want to increase your dosage. I am on Zoloft and 2 other meds.Sometimes I don't feel like they are working, I pray a lot. Good Luck.

Cutting or trying to inflict harm upon yourself is not good! Life is a beautiful thing and so is every person living it..no matter how hard it gets...you should seek other ways to deal with your depression... and yes please go see your dr. and find support groups.. The world doesn't need another loss. Talk to people don't keep it bottled in..
Wishing you the best and longevity!

I dont think you will commited unless you were trying to kill yourself. Please do not do that, there are many people that can help you with your depression. If you were cutting for the sake of cutting or trying to harm yourself in anyway you need to call your doctor right away. Even if you are commited it may be the help you need to feel better. 1-800-SUICIDE* 1-800-273-TALK

Of course you should call your Dr. You didnt need any of us to tell you that. But I am quite suprised that the Dr. who stitched you up didnt investigate further, or did you lie about what happened? You need to get help. It is obvious that your condition is out of control.
