it depends

I've been to a lot of Churches were the preacher goes on for hours but really gives you mostly fluff and in those case I feel I could learn more by reading the bible

I've also been to church were the preacher goes into great length about something. Giving you different readings on the text as well as historical context.

in those case I think learn more then if I just read the bible or at the very least they give me more tools to look things up

You learn the Bible by adding precept upon precept. Going to church and reading the Bible is good. Going to a Bible college is also good.

It is a combination of the two, I go to church on Sunday, listen to the pastor, write my notes, I then go home, during my study time, I will take the pastor's notes along with the scripture and read for myself. I find that I get more out of my studying the bible more so than just listening to the preacher. So the key is I believe that they sort of go together.

If you go to a good Bible teaching Church, you should know that it takes both. The Church has teachers and that is a Spiritual gift and we should submit to that. But we need to be as the Bereans and study for ourselves.(Acts 17:11)

I believe that you learn from the Bible. Church offers man a forum to go and praise and worship with like-minded people.
Church can offer us 'food for thought', but it is a man who is preaching to you. The Bible is God's Word, and he can minister to us through that and teach us what we need to know.

When going to Church, AND reading the bible.

Unless you have a theology and History major, some direction as to the wording is necessary.

i learn more on my own than going to church...you don't have to go to church to pray to God, meditate, help people, give to others, etc...the Bible is more helpful for me personally, than church.
