Well, since you didn't really ask a question, what I can tell you is that there is medicine you can take if you have IBS. It works, so it is worth the trip to the doctor.
Good luck!

It's hard to offer advice without any details. The first thing i would recommend is going to the online message board at webMD. (http://boards.webmd.com/webx?14@@.5987f421) There's a LOT of information if you look through the old messages, and if you post a message there, someone will definitely try to help you. There are some really great, knowledgable people there. You'll need to give as much information as possible: your symptoms, what tests the doctors have run, your other medical conditions, etc.

Another good website is http://www.helpforIBS.com and especially http://www.helpforIBS.com/diet . There are a lot of great ideas on how to modify your diet to relieve your symptoms. The site doesn't have all the answers, but I think the diet it describes is a good place to start & a good way to calm your system down enough to figure out what's causing your problems. Also be sure to read the information on soluble & insoluble fiber - soluble fiber can really help with both diarrhea and constipation, but insoluble fiber can really be an irritant for some people. The website explains the difference.

If you haven't seen a doctor already, please do! And make sure they run plenty of tests, including a colonoscopy, before they tell you it's "just IBS". It's important to rule out the other diseases that can cause similar symptoms but require different treatment.

A couple of people above mentioned probiotics ("good bacteria"), and they're a great idea. Really no negative side effects that I've heard of, and they really help a lot of people. Digestive Advantage is a good brand, easy to find, and one of the cheaper ones; other good ones are Culturelle, Trader Joes, Kirkman Labs, Enzymatic Therapy. Different brands seem to work for different people.

A LOT of people find their IBS is triggered by food intolerances. Dairy is a very common one. Others can be fatty foods, roughage (insoluble fiber), wheat/wheat gluten, red meat .. the list goes on and on. If you really want to figure out what's going on, you can go on a BRA diet (bananas, rice, applesauce - all plain) for a week or so. If your system calms down, which it probably will, you know your symptoms are related to something you eat. (It could be something you've eaten every day for your entire life). When your system is stable, you can add in a new food each week, and if you have no reaction after several days, it's a "keeper" - if you react to it, you know you need to stop.

If you can't do a drastic diet like that, try to just keep your foods simple. Fresh is best, avoid artificial sweeteners, processed foods and take-out. Keep a diary of what you eat each day, along with the symptoms you have. This will help you look for a pattern between what you eat and how you feel.

In my case, i turned out to be intolerant to MSG (free glutamate), which is in almost every processed food in the supermarket. I was very sick, lost weight, felt miserable all the time, for weeks. Within a day or two of cutting out processed foods, I felt great. I've been fine ever since, just from cutting one thing out of my diet. Hopefully, you'll find the cause of your IBS and find relief, too!!

There are rather a couple of matters that support with commonplace digestion and would possibly support with IBS. Many consumers get advantages from Probiotics, Fiber, or Enzymes. If you're allergic to lactose, you will have to be certain that any probiotics you get are both lactose loose or milk loose (they're extra steeply-priced that manner)... OR you might check out a few Lactase Enzyme (it is helping digest lactose, so it will support shrink the response). There are a couple of humans that get advantages from belly soothers like Ginger, Peppermint Oil, or Aloe Vera..... however that is simply to calm the belly, now not the intestines or bowels (that's in which Irritable Bowel Syndrome is situated). For any of the ones, I might advise checking with a health care provider that is aware of approximately dietary supplements or an allergist, simply to be certain you should not have a trouble with any of the ones (typical caution for any person with a scientific situation). ....however you might check out them in the event you should not have an overly extreme response and are inclined to danger it ;-)

I used to have it too. Try keeping a food diary. Write down everything you eat and drink for a month and also keep track of the times you get sick. It will help you figure out which foods upset your stomach. There can be an 8-12 hour delay between eating the food and getting sick.

I have gotten good results with enteric coated peppermint oil capsules (Peppermint Plus, by Enzymatic Therapy). It seems to really relieve the cramping and the diarrhea.
Also take the best probiotic you can find.
Good luck!
