I am 27 yr old at home mom. I am 5'8" and 224 lbs. Most people hear that and say "What a lard a**!" Well, I can curl 60 lbs, crunch 90 lbs, squat 120 lbs, and lift 150 with my back. Yes I do have fat, I am not denying that. Here is my problem. I work out daily (30-60min of moderate cardio) and weightlift every other day. I eat about 1500 calories and my fat intake is 10% of my calorie intake. Why can't I lose weight? I have tried increasing my cardio intesity, but get breathless, so that won't work.
Any suggestions?

Good for you! I'm glad your exercising and eating right. It's half the battle.
Since you are doing everything right, it could be a couple of things:
You're body could have gotten used to your workout. You say you've tried increasing your cardio intensity, but you get out of breath. Try short bursts of high intensity (it's called Turbulence Training). Walk/Run at your regular intensity for 3 minutes, then for 1 minute, run for all your worth, then go back to 3 minutes of normal. You get the idea.
Also, change up your weight routine. Increase your weight and do less reps. You're muscles will respond. It's always great to surprise your body.
I would also suggest to visit your doctor. You may have a thyroid problem. I've got something called Polycycstic Ovarian Syndrome which makes it incredibly hard to loose weight.
Write what you're eating and exercising for the next three days, then go see your doctor and show him your diet and exercise plan, which will help him run the right tests.
Good for you, and good luck!

I am not sure if you lift this heavy weight every other day or not. But if you want to lose weight its not the pound of the weight its the reps with the weight take the pounds down and do more reps. And try doing intervals with your cardio - you don't have to increase the time just do different levels within the time that you allow yourself to do the cardio. Not sure what your diet is but make sure you are eating at lest 5-6 times a day - small meals. Good Luck

Go to www.sparkpeople.com
It is a healthy way to lose weight and it is a free site. It's like having your private nutritionist.
You type in how much you want to lose and by when etc...and they plan out your meals so you can achieve your goal. They have a calorie counter and everything. Plus they give you a fitness plan according to what type of exercising you like to do. It is free with support from the members and a real neat site. I'm really impressed.
Enjoy!
God Bless!

Hi- I am also 5'8 and weighed 227 6 months ago. However I weight almost 60 lbs less now with Jenny Craig. The program is great and I'm 20 lbs away from my goal. I would talk to them and see if they can help... they work and I had great success with them. Good luck!

My personal suggestion (and personal experience)- if you are eating ANY junk food at all, cut it out of your diet. If you are drinking any soda/beer/alcoholic or carbonated products, cut them out... and last but not least, drink water, LOTS of it! Water will help significantly- and personally, I actually (even though its not necessarily good according to the governement), replace meals with drinking water and chewing gum. I normally eat 1 normal meal a day- and It is worked for me. I have actually dropped 70 or so lbs since Januray (i also call it the "no appetite" divorce diet)

Add protein!!!! You're not getting enough for the amount you are working out.
Add two scrambled egg whites to your breakfast and 8oz skim milk. Eat a whole wheat wrap instead of two peices of bread with your turkey at lunch.
Eat an apple with organic cashew butter for your afternoon snack. Add 1 oz. nuts to your evening yogurt. And drink another 8oz. skim milk with supper.
