Did anyone know that the United States almost went to war over a dead pig?

Actually - there was never a chance of war breaking out. The soldiers on both side of the dispute basically told their respective civilians involved in the dispute to sit down and shut up.

Then the soldiers set up barracks and enjoyed several months of 'easy duty' while the politicians (thousands of miles and several weeks of travel away) sorted things out.

The troops were rather disappointed when the matter was settled and they had to go back to work.

No I didn't. I spent nine years in the Army, never heard of that. It must be from our military history and I sure wouldn't doubt it. Pig or oil, they will use any excuse to go to war.
