When you say that "it is hot" like inside a building in Spanish do you say "hace calor" or "es caliente."

Is "hace calor" only for when it is hot outside, or can it be used if it is hot indoors too?

Thank you!! :)

Hace Calor = It's hot (as in the weather/ room temperature)
(can be used both in & outdoors)

Esta Caliente= It's hot (refering to a hot object)
Example: "iCuidado! El plato esta caliente!" = "Be careful! The plate is hot!"

Many words in Spanish you just learn to use them correctly over time. Sometimes things often said may be gramatically incorrect. Sometimes it's confusing.

Hope this was a bit helpful : )

Hace calor is when you say "it's hot" (weather, room tempature)

Esta caliente, is "this is hot" (object like a hot pan)

Es Caliente is also " this is hot" (like coffee- el cafe es caliente)- the coffee is hot (should be hot to drink)

Caliente is NOT used for it's spicy hot , spicy -hot is "picoso"

Hace calor is used for room temperature (temperatura ambiente), which you can't touch but you can feel.
Está caliente is used to refer to an object, something you can touch.

"es caliente" isn't good grammar
you could say esta caliente or it is hot
but hace calor is what most people use:)
